Okay, I confess.

I clicked on the ad and next thing I knew I was taking an IQ test online. (I wonít name the company unless somebody requests.) Kind of interesting - I hadnít taken one for several decades, and I admit it was kind of fun. At the end I got a quick over view and my IQ number. The pleasant surprise was that Iíd gained a few points since the last one I knew, back in high school several decades. Itís probably still within experimental error, but even so....

The whole point of course was to suck me in to the other services the company offers, including a more detailed report on my IQ and related personality characteristics. Not by chance, there was some membership deal where you could make contact with others of comparable parameters, including two members of the sex opposite/apposite mine in proximity to my zip code.

Does this sound geeky or what? Itís not like there arenít ways to meet people over the net, but I hadnít considered using IQ before. (I probably havenít been paying attention.)

Itís also a little weird for me; the first time I found out what my IQ was, I practically had to beat it out of my high school guidance counselor. When I think of all the tests I took in school, I wonder now that they never got around to showing us the test scores, but they made all kinds of decisions about us using them. Have things changed, or is getting your IQ from the powers that be less of a struggle these days?

Iím not going to get into the debate about what IQ measures - itís just one more number like height or weight. (And no, Iím not going to say what it is here. Itís just high enough to enable me to achieve an above-average level of screwing up. ;-) )

I fell victim to taking the test aswell. Is it just me or was that test easy???
Gee, finding love that way is rather odd isn't it? Does one really want to base your love on a similiar IQ?

Well, I suppose if you use IQ as a starting point, you have a better shot at it being a fair fight. You're not worrying about artificial enhancements (at least not yet) You don't have to worry if it's really that color, or any of that other stuff.

Besides, ultimately it's still mind to mind when all is said and done, and you're there in the dark.

A friend and myself took one out of boredom once. It was not hard (highschool level stuff). In the end there was a simliar offer. I think it may have been legit, but was more centered on finiding your demographic data for advertising statistics than it was on really finding your IQ or a person for you.
The big giveaway was their "special" IQ scale, developed by a "team of expert scientists". I took the tes again and answered most questions wrong to test this out. Sure enough my new "room temperature IQ", was enough to get me into the same margin on the scale as my original run.
They can be fun, but i'd not go with serious.

have to see a single "true" IQ test online yet
-- culture-blind and language-indifferent one.
Most fun is trying to figure out what _the_authors_ thought of as being _the_right_ answer and why... heh

Paranoia is healthy actually, keeps you on your toes. You're damn right I'm going to kick your ass... I feel the atrocious need to lend my assistance in improving your mental capacity...nahh, if you're avatar is anything to go by, you're far too cute to reprimand. [Razz]

Mm, well, mine was kinda difficult to get them to tell me, but then, the fact that mine was 20+ points higher than anyone in any of my classes, except 2 guys, I think I can guess why they didn't want to tell me [Razz]

I took that test also, and my favorite questions (also the ones I ended up being a specialist in) were the spatial questions. An example would be: which one of these pictures would follow after the given ones? It would be a square with an edge missing, a circle with a dot in the center, or whatever. Some of them got more complicated, but nothing I couldn't handle. Maybe they make you feel good about yourself with (I agree) too easy questions and then offer you products to indulge your newly grown ego. [Big Grin] Advertisers are satan.

Back three or so years ago, emode used to be a really neat website before they started saying "Here's your test results, but get your REAL test results for only $14.95!" I'm thinking "This is the internet, I don't wanna PAY for anything!" (except of course the ISP; not that i want to pay for it, but there's no such thing as a free ISP).

But anyway, I wouldn't trust internet IQ tests because I've gotten results ranging from 164 (ha ha very funny) to 128. I'm not trying to brag, i'm just trying to warn against inaccurate tests.
