I'm with Xanthine. TV is generally boring. I prefer reading a book myself. I recommend The Dreaming Tree by C.J. Cherrya(sp?). The end was kind of strange but overall a great read. (and anything with "dreaming" in the title can't be bad, eh? [Wink] ) Anyone else read anything good lately?

Sometimes I wonder if this mess we're in now isn't the fault of another Orr.

I've grown fond of Russian literature these days. And thank you Janeway for changing the subject. I find tv depressing. I feel like people watch it to escape their lives, or so that they don't have to interact with real humans.

Reality TV is so horendous, words escape me. Actually, words rarely escape me (I'm quick like that). Reality TV is a way for people to escape the mundanity of their real life by watching Other People in Exciting Situations. Like Soaps, but on primetime and without the social stigmata.

Joe Millionaire... cheez. Those marriage shows are horrid. Is nothing sacred anymore?

the only good thing about joe millionare is that they advertise it so damn much that every body knows about it so they can't do another one unless they find some body who is either really stupid or really out of it

I just hate the term "reality TV" for television shows that really have NO reality in them. Thank GOD for it--not too many people I know personally are ever going to have to eat a Madagascar hissing cockroach (fear factor) or meet their potential mate on a TV show. This stuff is the farthest thing you can GET from reality. A reality show would be someone writing a check for their freaking car payment or feeding their dog or slaving over a computer all day at work. True reality is too BORING for TV.

Not that so-called "reality" TV is any better. Those marriage shows make me want to kick someone's face. [Big Grin]

Thank you, Hillary, for reaffirming my own sense of sanity.

When the first wave of "reality shows" hit (on MTV), all I could think to myself is, How the hell can they take a bunch of people of different sexes, stick them in a huge mansion with all their needs fulfilled, like rats in some overpopulation experiment, and then call it realistic?

And I believe Spike's right about women being the primary audience for this tripe. I can't imagine why they'd like this stuff, though -- aren't women supposed to be the rational ones? I guess not.
