Yes, I know-we aren't supposed to bring back old, old threads, but I was sitting here remembering the kinds of posts that pulled me into this place way back when, and I couldn't resist.

http://www.geekculture.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=000195

There used to be some meaningful topics with extremely touching and poetic posts, but not so much anymore. I think we should bring back some of the old stuff now and then-it was damned good. **sigh**

*sigh* Those were some times, and alas, I was more of a lurker then, and didn't post in these crazy and great old love forums then [Smile] .

I have an idea: I do consider posting to old/naturally dead threads to be a bad idea, but:
How about creating a new topic, with a link to the old one, to bring about new discussion of this subject. Say your piece about why you liked the thread, what you took from it, or some simple little comment, whatever, and then let new discussion abound.

Ok, Dman-I'll go first.

I LOVED Nekomatic's first post. Geordie's, mephisto's and Mr Zarquon's were great, too.

EDIT: WHAT exactly is so bad about reviving old threads if they're good(something we don't have an overabundance of these days)?

snaggy, how bout setting up a new "old thread" forum? i'm sure it would make some old, sad, dribbling in their boiled-egg-and-toast, forget-where-they-are die-hards, very happy! (me included)

Honestly, necroposting isn't the sin most people think it is. Necroposting for a one-liner, repeat or troll is silly and annoying. But, I'd rather see necroposting than new threads that repeat the first one. So, I suppose the rule of thumb should be "necro post if you have something original and worth while to say about a 'dead' topic, before posting a repeated idea." However, the "no troll" rule of thumb, should be punishable by thumb screws.

edit:In fact, Snupy, I'm necroposting that one, I'm mushy.. and I just have to... Then after everyone yells at me, feel free (anyone) to slide in on the revival.

It's been frowned upon by Snaggy and others I believe. Maybe someone can find the threads where it's mentioned?

snupy, 'tis not frowned upon by me.

I don't mind ye olde threads revisiting, and very much like to see an old one now and then, as long as GameMaster's Rules of Necroposting apply.

:-)

Yes, others have actually called upon for old threads to be deleted... [Eek!] gasp!

Ya know, i suppose instead of necroposting everything we could just start new threads with touching poetry and so forth...

My apologies, Snaggy. You know how the memory fails us old folks. [Frown]

I read the old stuff frequently. I'm amazed sometimes that people who now seem barely human were quite deep at one time.
