I'm a female non-geek(working on it) who's hopelessly attracted to geeks. Something about the passion they feel for their computers, and the knight-in-shining-armor quality of a good tech-support guy.

Welcome. You'll do well for yourself if you grasp geek-jokes... You'll find a lot of them in the threads that turn into Pun-Fests.

I did notice more looks from the ladies when I spouted off in class about my love of linux and all things non-microsoft. Maybe this is why those rebels get all the good-looking women. Gotta go fight the good fight! And welcome to geekdom!

Don't worry - there's plenty of folk like me here, i.e., with our college days receding like... like antarctic ice-shelves. I think you'll find a fair old range of persons here, from them dang-nab whipper-snappers to the slightly-more-crotchety-than-their-age-would-suggest types, like myself.

We pretend to be young but we are all 70 year old men who have a gun that we named 'matilda'....

What? I'm the only one?

I doubt your college days are receding quite as much as mine, but thanks for trying to make me feel better. I have a question-now remember, I'm a non-geek-what's wrong with Windows XP? I keep reading digs about it here, and I just got a new computer at work with it already installed. You're all makin' me nervous....

Well its been more than a dozen years since I decided to take a few semesters off to decide on a major and I think Antioch College has probably decided I am not a student anymore.

It doesn't have to be just linux. Any guy that can get passionate about geeky interests makes me weak in the knees.

Ahhhh, wish I was, wish I could go back knowing what I know today, boy would I go through the classes with great grades and also chat up those young college ladies as I would have sooooo much more experience in what NOT to say to the female gender.

Hmph.  I waxed poetic about orbital mechanics and propulsion stuff over in Ask a Geek, and you didn't fall at my feet.  I think you over-state your case.

I am attracted to geeks too... I wish I could find some REAL geeks around here in USA.

Those, capable of hanging a Christmas tree, as well as of hanging their friends (just for the sake of the picture, friends survived), like my Ukrainian friends do...

But it's not knight-in-the-armor attitude, I used to work as a technician too (and I know how illiterate we all are)... but I always notice those strange looks from guys, when I cheerfully... what did I do last... modified the kernel of OpenBSD, that was our assignment...

Any lonely geek around here, wishing to be friends? ([email protected])

Cool, well now I don't feel bad ranting about Linux. I had no idea that my passion for this could be a desireable trait. I'll still hold off from explaining to guys who ask me why I use Linux if they don't get it, but not if there's any women around - then I'll go full tilt. I guess I was afraid I might look like a nut, but I can see some of the logic behind it. I still would like to get more familiar with Shakespeare on the side, but I guess there's no practical opportunity for me to recite Hamlet's soliloquiy (which I now know by heart since I love it - it speaks on many levels).
