Thought I'd share the reactions of unsuspecting SA forum members to "The Joy of Tech":

"psylent": ...I use a PC, other people use and prefer Macs, I do not have a problems with this. I do, however, have a problem with the authors of this fucking piece of garbage... Yes I know, it's a fucking *NEWSFLASH* that I have stumbled across a shitty webcomic, but these guys are desrving of death.

"666": Even a mac-enthousiast like me finds this repulsive. Death.

"Sventek": If he's a clown, find out if he lives in a gutter and eats children. Or has naked pictures of them. I hate clowns for those two reasons.

"Greybone": The fab five one was funny, I laughed. It was really really lame though.

"Aominux": I... just don't know what to say... No, honestly, I'm just sitting here with my mouth agape. This is horrid, horrid, "work".

"Spiderdrake": Why do you share such horrible things with us?

"ElProducto": ...Hey, maybe you completely missed the joke. This comic isn't that funny but it's not that bad either.

"dethblud": Ah, Joy of Tech, the second abomination from the beloved "Nitrozac". See if the "After Y2K" archive is still on the site. Riddled with horrible computer references and saturated with Martha Stewart references (she's one of the main villains).

"Dr. Fred": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/385.html

This is just.. no.

Edit: aaahhhhsj

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/339.html

"neptho": Most of them suck, but occasionally JoT has one - ONE which makes me laugh. Similar to Penny Arcade.

"FreakingNeo": These comics are horrible

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/185.html
WTF?

"FrozenEntree": The ironing is delicious in this one. They honestly don't see that their webcomic follows exactly what that comic [http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/385.html] is talking about? These comics make me cry.

edit--

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/381.html

this one isn't so bad

EDIT 2-- GOD NO MAKE IT STOP!!!

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/367.html

"PIC": Penny Arcade looks like a golden wonder compared to this garbage.

"Happy Noodle Boy": For the love of god... what's wrong with these people?

"Shitty_McShit": I don't think I've ever read anything more unfunny.

"qirex": The Joy of Tech:Mac users::User Friendly:LUNIX nerds

"eXXon": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/401.html

So, what the fuck does this have to do with anything?

"FrozenEntree": god, what's worse is that I went back to 001.html and checked it out. The art isn't any better there than it is at the very last one. You would think that after 500 or so comics they would get a consistancy feel to it.

"HaggleMcFraggle": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/003.html
This one made me laugh, but only as a sort of non-sequitor.

Edit: also, FYAD in 70 years: http://www.joyof tech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/008.html

"tasslex": Jesus Christ this comic SUCKS

"hexenhaus": The only conclusion I can come up with is that the writer of these comics is socially retarded - even on the interenet.

"Reaten": I've been trying, but I just can't make these any stupider than they already are. Someone else help.

"Antiorganic": ...This shit fucking sucks.

"Snaggletooth": This is truly horrid [Frown]

"FlamingArrow": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/485.html

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!

Oh god, they even have a book.

This is retarded.

"Reo": The thing that bothers me the most about this fucking comic is that it's obviously made by tracing photographs.

"KodiaK": i am now stupider for reading that comic.

"Molerat": [about http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/485.html] LOL This comic sucks ass but I actually laughed at that one. How terrible.

"TastyArmageddon": ahahahaha, check out their september 11th comic

I know it's just their way of expressing their feelings about 9/11 or whatever, but seeing the statue of liberty so crudely drawn is just hilarious.

"Drakkus": is that the statue of liberty, or han solo in carbonite?

"Closeau": I found it funny in that it was such a lame joke, and thought that was the intention. I don't want to look at the website to discover that lameness WASN'T the intention.

"Steelhound": The drawing style is pretty good for some amatuer comic.

The writing makes me shed a lone tear for humanity.

"Moosk": It's like a horrible, horrible rip off of, ... Uuuuh. That geek(read:nerd) comic. Oh man, I totally forget. I'm guessing everyone here doesn't like it, but they have to know the name. It's mainly a linux geek comic. Funny.

Clearly JOT needs some changes to appeal to this demographic. Perhaps some fart jokes?
Just be careful not to be too subtle for them.

These are the guys are part of the demographic responsible for keeping shit on the air like 'Jack Ass' or 'Beavis and Butthead' which is funny for like, what, a second.

Even more bizzare, if JoT sucks so much, these guys are even bigger fscking losers for talking about it for so long.

Must have been too subtle for me.
Next time, use the word "FART" in really big letters, and show large clouds of toxic gas, otherwise how am I supposed to know it was a fart?

To be honest, I don't get a lot of the gags in JoT - cultural references, Mac stuff, etc. But there have been many classics as far as I'm concerned - e.g. this one (or perhaps, my favourite, this one? ) If those morons, whoever they are, can't see it - then more fool them.

I'm going to guess it's "Something Awful" since they were talking about a review from that site in anther thread.

spungo: I don't always get the jokes either. That is why I'm glad they think to put relevancy links next to the comic. It's not as funny as if I knew what they were talking about in the first place, but at least I know what's going on.

I think that was pretty interesting.

I seriously enjoy Penny Arcade (on my daily list), User Friendly (also on my daily list), as well as JoT.

In fact, here's my list of daily comics, just so the people from SA can attempt to ridicule me [Smile]

http://www.UserFriendly.org/static (Daily), http://www.KevinandKell.com (Daily), http://www.BrunotheBandit.com (MWF), http://www.Hackles.org (TTh), http://www.Penny-Arcade.com (MWF), http://www.PVPonline.com (Daily), and http://www.geekculture.com/joyoftech/index.html (MWF).

I would appreciate all ridicule to be in the form of low-brow, pseudo-intellectual gay jokes [Smile]

What They Are Really Saying:

"psylent": ...I use a PC, other people use and prefer Macs, I do not have a problems with this. I do, however, have a problem being jealous of the the authors of this fucking piece of genius... Yes I know, it's a fucking *NEWSFLASH* that I have haven't though of how hard it is to create a webcomic, so I am really desrving of death.

"666": Even a mac-enthousiast isn't necessarily brilliant enough to understand. Death.

"Sventek": If he's a clown, find out if he lives in a gutter and eats children. Or has naked pictures of them. I hate clowns for those two reasons. [Ok, this one needs to see his psychiatrist for some more time.]

"Greybone": The fab five one was funny, I laughed. It's really really lame though that I can't stand on my own and assume I like it when everyone says otherwise.

"Aominux": I... just don't know what to say... No, honestly, I'm just sitting here with my mouth agape. This is horrid, horrid, that some people can work and have fun at it.

"Spiderdrake": Why do you share such horrible things with us? Now my brain hurts!

"ElProducto": ...Hey, maybe you completely missed the joke. This comic isn't that funny but it's not that bad either, so I guess I'm not a desperate case.

"dethblud": Ah, Joy of Tech, the second creation from the beloved "Nitrozac". See if the "After Y2K" archive is still on the site. Why do they prefer Martha Steward over computers is beyond me. Martha's a genius, and computers are stupid machines!

"Dr. Fred": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/385.html

This is just.. no. Sorry, don't remember what I was going to say. Must take my Ritalin&tm;.

Edit: aaahhhhsj

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/339.html

"neptho": Most of them I don't understand, but occasionally JoT has one - ONE which makes me laugh. Similar to Penny Arcade. You have to understand the context to get the joke.

"FreakingNeo": These comics are horrible, too bad I can only draw stick-men, otherwise, I'd show them how to draw.

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/185.html
I'm too dumb to get it?

"FrozenEntree": The ironing is delicious in this one. They honestly don't see that their webcomic follows exactly what that comic [http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/385.html] is talking about? These comics make me cry with laugh.

edit--

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/381.html

this one isn't so bad

EDIT 2-- GOD NO MAKE IT STOP!!! I'm gonna die laughing so hard!!!

http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/367.html

"PIC": Anything I don't understand right away is good for garbage. Don't make me think.

"Happy Noodle Boy": For the love of god... what's wrong with these people? How can they be so creative?

"Shitty_McShit": I don't think I've ever read anything more unfunny. Actually, I don't think I've ever read something funny. There must be something wrong with my sense of humour.

"qirex": The Joy of Tech:Mac users::User Friendly:LUNIX nerds

"eXXon": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/401.html

So, what the fuck does this have to do with anything? Pop-up adds are great, aren't they? Flashing colors, great advices, and so many things free!

"FrozenEntree": god, what's worse is that I went back to 001.html and checked it out. The art isn't any better there than it is at the very last one. You would think that after 500 or so comics they would get a consistancy feel to it. Am I coherent? Uh... I guess not.

"HaggleMcFraggle": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/003.html
This one made me laugh, but only as a sort of non-sequitor. Oh, wait, now I get it!

Edit: also, FYAD in 70 years: http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/008.html

"tasslex": Jesus Christ this comic SUCKS (And I have a God-given mission to kill people.)

"hexenhaus": The only conclusion I can come up with is that the writer of these comics is socially retarded - even on the interenet. I, for one, am only mentally retardated. I'm on the interenet and I don't know how to spell it.

"Reaten": I've been trying, but I just can't make these any stupider than they already are. Someone else help. It's so hard to create someting, even when working with a starting point.

"Antiorganic": ...This shit fucking sucks. Hey, I just put three potty words in a four word sentence!

"Snaggletooth": This is truly horrid, I don't get any!

"FlamingArrow": http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/485.html

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?!

Oh god, they even have a book.

I am retarded.

"Reo": The thing that bothers me the most about this fucking comic is that it's obviously made by tracing photographs. Now, I can't even take photographs, but I can still bash anyone I want.

"KodiaK": i now really know how stupid i am from reading that comic.

"Molerat": [about http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/485.html] LOL This comic sucks ass but I actually laughed at that one. How terrible. I like it, but I can't tell others.

"TastyArmageddon": ahahahaha, check out their september 11th comic

I know it's just their way of expressing their feelings about 9/11 or whatever, but seeing the statue of liberty so crudely drawn is just hilarious.

BTW, who give cartoon editorialist their job? A 5-years old can draw better!

"Drakkus": is that the statue of liberty, or han solo in carbonite? Should I put my glasses on?

"Closeau": I found it funny in that it was such a lame joke, and thought that was the intention. I don't want to look at the website to discover that lameness WASN'T the intention. Or that I can't go beyond first degree jokes.

"Steelhound": The drawing style is pretty good for some amatuer comic. Professional quality, I'd say.

Funny. Oh, yes, JOT.

[Hey, if they can make fun of JOT and its audience, we can make fun of them too! I wonder what a flame war between the two groups would looks like...Total carnage, maybe?]

[Confused] Did I go too far? Was I tasteless, or not nearly as funny as I thought when editing the original post? (I'm not perfect, I know.) Should I remove my edited version? Unless your comment wasn't directed at me, GMx?

Thanks. I'm usually not into disparaging people, but I just couldn't help it. It's OK in my book not to like something, or not to laugh at a joke, but telling something 'sucks' just to fly (and crash) with the flock isn't. So I kinda swang the pendulum back at them.

OK, I am familiar with Something Awful. Based on my limited experience with it, I don't think you're allowed to like anything on that site, unless it's something that disparages something else.

Hey... I do not agree all the time with SA. I do troll through their Photoshop Phriday archive to see the stuff people do. some of it is rather hillarious. however this site is full of stuff that may not be suitable for everyone.

The guys that are panning the JoT commic obviously have no lives or creativity in them. However if the the JoT is to be parodied on the Photosho Phriday page this can be a good thing. It will bring more poeple to the site toi further investigate, pehaps even joining the legion.... BTW... they did Phriday Wil Wheaton

Wil loved it. Almost as much as Nitrozac's JoT on him.

Yeah, SA reminds me a bit of fark.com's evil twin. They're both similar sort of sites, with similar sort of audiences (but don't tell them that [Wink] ).
