I went out with this guy (I'm a girl) the other night. He seemed like a nice guy, but there was something about him that seemed really false, like he wasn't giving me a real indication of his personality. So, I decided to test this, I pretended to get much drunker than I did, to see if he would start acting inappropriate. And he totally did. Started trying to pressure me into bed in really obvious annoying ways, being passive aggressive, he even told me at one point that if I didn't sleep with him he'd have to go service himself in a bathroom, and I wouldn't want him doing something dirty like that, would I? Such a creepo. Anyway, that's my confession, I pretend to be drunker than I am to test guys. In truth, I'd never drink more than two mixed drinks in one night, I'm not into getting wasted.

I'm not entirely sure I disagree with your tactic -- if it shows what he's really like, so be it.

While I think it's a decent precaution, I think there's a bigger problem here - these guys are schmucks/μαλάκαs. If you can figure out the truth to them ahead of time, just get rid of them quickly whilst sober. Otherwise, things may turn out in this very ugly manner, and I'd hate to see the one time it got worse than described here.

Hmm, interesting. Luckily for you nothing worse happened, like drink spiking (yeah it really happens, watch out for it kids).

I must admit, I've pretended to be more drunk than I was to look better to a chick who was drinking me under the table by a long way. Didn't work though. I've given up on trying since, she's a total alco compared to me.

Actually, that sounds like a pretty useful tactic. I'm surprised you were able to act drunk and keep up the facade of being drunk. At any rate, I would suggest that you run--don't walk---away from this guy.

The plan works great for catching scum, but what if the guy turns out okay? Wouldn't he find it strange if he found out that you were testing him by acting? I personally would find it strange, and it would leave me wondering and worrying about what other "tests" are coming.

If the guy was "okay" he wouldn't do the stuff she described.

Yeah, you know, you're right, I do realize that I could get into trouble that way. I did run away from that guy, he doesn't even know my information, so that's good. From now on I'm sticking to friends of friends.

I have used that tactic before and the guys LOST interest, and that to me is the sign of a good guy, one who is not interested in being with a drunk girl, and is bored by it. I don't have anything against drinking (I actually just made a drink called a Royal Flush that I learned on this bar site, www.thebar.com, drinking it now), I just don't think that it should be done to excess, especially when mixed with dating.

I don't; it's a brilliant, time-tested tactic.

And it works a lot better than pretending to be sober. [Wink]

A certain young lady used to pretend to be drunk for precisely the opposite reason...

Excuse me for the necropost, but is that particular Greek word (meaning a practitioner of the manual arts) in general usage in the US?

It's something I have only really heard used by Greeks up to now.
