i grow Venus fly-traps, so you're not alone in the whole weird plant growing business. Actually, that makes me think - one of them's stopped eating, and sprouted flowers in the middle of Winter. Is this normal. Anyone any ideas?

So? What's stopping you?! It's not like they're illegal or anything! (Unlike the *ahem* recreational horticulture that I'd like to be able to grow) ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Flytraps, eh Stibbons? I've tried those twice. I can never feed them quite correctly. Orchids are intresting in that you can't grow them in soil. They grow on branches, or bark, or rocks.

Awww, I want summer, so I can play in my garden again. Two summers ago, I discovered that I have the proverbial green thumb. There's something incredibly fun about making/helping/watching things grow. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to buy and plant anything terribly exotic, nor do I have the space to grow things inside.
I've only grown a few varieties of orchids, and have never even seen a flytrap in person.. sniff.. but anyway, I say go for it, DrPsyclops, and best of luck!

MMMmmmm.... Grilled troll.
I want the snow to be gone and spring to spring so that I can nuture my roses and see if the wild ones will bloom this year (or if they couldn't stand the winter in their new home). We have 4 roses in fron (ordinary breads) and 4 or 5 wild rose bushes along the driveway.

Roses are evil! those thorns are brutal. Summers are too brutal and winters are to cold to grow too much around outdoors. This spring i'm going to try to grow somthing in my recycled super-soil.

I love roses, inspite of the thorns. My favorites are the hybrid tea roses. They aren't as fussy as the english kind, and I thnk they're prettier than the ones that grow on bushes (but I may be biased). For as long as I can remember, my family has kept roses. They grow all along the west side of our house, starting in late May/early June and extending through Autumn - it is not unusual for Mom to have an orange rose on the table on Halloween. My dad is the one that keeps them, and he's partial to the ones that smell, so all our roses are very fragrant. They also look pretty - we've got some orange ones, some yellow ones, some red ones in various shades, a couple that are the color of flame (yellow graduating to red), a few lilac ones that aren't thriving, and I think we have a peace rose or two as well. The orage ones smell the best. The flame-colored ones have the sharpest thorns.
Someday I will have a house with a yard, and I too shall grow roses.

While were on the subject of horticulture, I will destroy Almonds! I hate almonds!
I usetahad marigolds at the house I grew up in. They smell kind of stale.
I should first see if my house is the kind of environment for orchids.

Roses are quite nice, and I do find them nice to look at, smell, and share, but I have one piece of advice - don't fall into them. Falling into a rose bush isn't comfortable, believe it or not. And no, I did not fall into such a bush while trying to climb a fence to serenade someone [besides the fact that this would probably be painful to the ears] or anything nice like that - my car's parking space at home is right up against a retaining wall that has a rose bush growing next to/below it. Trying to clear one's car in the snow, when some of the surface below might be icy, lends quite well to slipping and falling into said roses [and their thorns!]. That's not something you really want to make your way out of, let alone be in -- this is to say that it's actually probably more uncomfortable to actually make your way through the roses to get out than to fall on them, though that wasn't fun, either. Still, I get my revenge on that thing a few times a year with pruning shears . So the score is probably: dragon - 15, rose bush - 2.

Shouldn't be anything dark or secret about growing flowers, why would there be? My father wins prizes at the fair for his plants and flowers, I belong to a local daylily club, most of the members are men. It's a great challenge, with a lot of luck thrown in.

1) Pissing on flowers won't kill them unless you do it a lot. However, it will leave salts behind that might attract animals that eat the plants. :/
2) Can we avoid another manly showdown please? Most of us are still recovering form the last one.
3) Where is that ^$&*%$*&^&@#%$%$@!%^$^ bong?

Hey, mine was just a friendly warning. I don't need no bong (yes, the double negitive was meant to be put in), and everyone here knows that I'm not liken to overly "manly" ( ) showdowns by borderline trolls. /me realizes that I am often borderline troll and laughs at my hypocricy (sp).
