re: Today's JoT - Nicely done, N+S!
Believe it or not, I actually first saw it via the zillion links in an arstechnica post about Apple today.
As such, I can only hope that you fine folks got a few extra page views today.
Naturally, people have bent over backwards to say that what Apple is doing is 'okay.' I'm sure they feel the same way about Microsoft saving money that way.
I read the NYT article yesterday, and can't help but recognize what dire straits California is in, and that it strikes me as quite fscked up that they're cheating their 'home' of this much needed revenue. If every Apple product ships with "Designed in Cupertino" inside (and 'made in China' on the packing info), shouldn't they be doing more for Cupertino, and less for Erin?
I know that 'everyone does it,' but that doesn't make it right. Changing the law to penalize everyone that does it probably won't happen anytime soon, but perhaps a page could be taken from Obama's plan to cut personal tax rates at the same time that loopholes are largely eliminated. Cut corporate tax rates, but also, put strict limits on the loopholes/shenanigans. If you're a US company, and you sell products in the US, you should pay an appropriate tax on your US proceeds. And ffs, no tax holidays on repatriation - half the reason the money is overseas is to get away with paying a lower tax rate here...asking to let the cheating be sanctioned is extraordinarily nervy.

Yeah yesterday was a good day for visitors, over 60K.
We had the some nice traffic from a great Daring Fireball link (15250), and that ArsTech forum link brought in 1625. Pretty awesome for a Forum link, imho.

In much better news, Charles Duhigg (the author of the New York Time piece) emailed and would like a signed print of the Stop the Presses comic for the New York Times newsroom.
Heh, he said his editor looks EXACTLY as we depicted him.

Hah. Pallid virgin.org? And Nitro is only a "clip-art placer"? Wow. That SFWeekly guy totally has it wrong.
