You really had me scared that David Bowie, my musical hero from youth, would have something to do with Microsoft. Please tell me that it's not true!!!

I like the NYTimes' closing comment in their story on Bing where they explain that the acronym could really mean But It's Not Google... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/29/technology/internet/29bing.html?_r=1&th&emc=th

So when we hear "Bing", I suppose we aren't supposed to think about "bungs" or "banging" or "banging bungs" or "bung bangers" (none of which is as dirty as it sounds).

"Bong" is probably not an association they won't appreciate either.

I still have no idea what they were thinking when they chose that name.

So, would a PC using that search engine be "The Machine That Goes Bing!" ?

If you watch 'The History Of NASA' backwards, it's about a space agency that has no manned spaceflight capability, then does low-orbit flights, then lands on the Moon.

Is there an entire page of posts missing from this topic, or am I just really missing the meat of this post?

It makes more sense if you've read the comic and looked at one of the relevancy links.

That said, Bing has one feature that might just get people to use it. It autoplays videos. Just imagine how much easier that makes searching for porn.

(and if you click a link named "porn" at work or school you deserve worse than what's actually there)

Perhaps it dates me a bit, but some /. comments did second my thoughts:

Could this be a dumber name?

;P

P.S. Is it me, or has Lifehacker really become an M$ shill?

Or were smart enough to notice which part of the forums you had stumbled into. Sorry for the obvious dumbassery, thanks!
