Thick? You don't like them thick? [Big Grin]

They don't know what OSX is in Europe and Asia,

Really? Any of the members here from Europe or Asia care to respond?

Most of the Geeks here from Euro-Asia have Macs not PCs:
Skylar is a Mac user,
U is Mac user,
Silver Blade is a Mac user,
Spungster is a GNU/Linux user,
Snuptress uses a PC
Sorry, I'm leaving people out, but I can't remember what side of the pond a lot of people are on.

I have a better comparison... How about in 10 years we compare how many windows servers there are to *nix servers? I won't say market share because most Linux boxes are not running a bought version of Linux.

JoT is meant as entertainment, and pokes fun at whatever is going on at the moment. Snaggy favors Macs, so it's going to be Apple-centric. I don't think the previous posters were very welcomming; but you open your stay with calling our gracious webmaster a "big meanie head" (in a few more words), and expect us to be nice? I give you the benfit of the doubt, but others have sharper tounges than those above.

Edit: Hey, Snaggy chimed in while I was getting to posting this. Darn, I have to remember to refresh my tabs.

Well, like any good geek I have a MySQL database that interfaces with a server application that talk to clients that I secretly installed on all the Geek Culture board members computers that does two things:

- records their location and OS to the database
- searchs for nude pictures and sends them back sorted by which member they came from. So, yes, I have the pic of MTB's butt [Big Grin] , and that one of you with the sheep [Frown] .

Now, the question you've got to ask is how did I get a crossplatform spyware app on to the desktops of all the geeks on the forums... And if you find the answer to that I may just have to start writing said app.

hm ... the thing is, GameMaster, he said "OS X". I am a Windows 2000 user ;) Have been for 2 1/2 years. Certainly not going Vista, though. XP maybe, but Windows apps eat far too much RAM (all of them -- even the simplest ones are more bloated than Mac OS 9 apps) and I don't want to squeeze XP in there too, since I "only" have 512 MB.

OK, I still do a lot of my work in Mac OS 9 -- Mac OS is my serious machine (does a lot for only 144 MB RAM); Windows is my fun machine (and I don't mean Solitaire). And I do in fact have a Mac OS X box, but it mostly just wastes energy (sound waves particularly) in transformer inefficiency keeping the real-time clock ticking in place of a working battery :)

Skylar's new MacBook (?) was stolen so she had that replaced, as I recall, with a Windows notebook so she's back to Windows. I think she was relatively happy with it, too -- but then, she was only used to Mac OS 10.1.5 and oh that was bad...

Shinaku is madly indecisive but he's used Mac OS X quite a bit, mostly on Intel.

Mackie (MacGenius) is from a certain European country he keeps quiet about, but he uses Mac OS X.

Seems that your new machine hasn't been infected yet (I thought you were still on your "OS 9 is the best" kick). Sky's either (I heard (read: read) about the theft of Sky's boxen, but not about what replaced it. I just assumed that it'd be the same thing that got nabbed...).

For the database, My OS is now, again, dual booting Debian and Windows... I'm addicted to a game that doesn't run well under Wine. It's supposed to work with Cedaga, but I'm not gonna buy a license when I could (and did) just repartion and reinstall the version of Windows XP that came with the computer. So, now I surf in either, play in Windows, and work (code) and record (the PVR card works in both) in Linux. I have the old ibook, but I haven't even turned it on in a dogs age, b/c the VGA cable is still wonky.

I don't know what the big deal is...after all, he said:
"now it's just viscous."

I think he's just making commentary on Aqua, guys. Probably the text based version of the Get a Mac "Sabotage" ad. ( See digg.com/apple )
[Honestly, though...that ad is lame.]

Bah, mocking windows etc is a favourite passtime of Mac, Linux and even Windows users. Get over it.
Those of us that are Mac users can deal with a bit of harmless fun. Its not like most of the people here really get into mocking not Mac fans.

Honest.
(Im a linux user BTW)

Let's meet at this time next year and compare marketshare Vista and OSX...oh, and worldwide sales of course. They don't know what OSX is in Europe and Asia,

Are you daft?, A lot of europeans have OSX. Just look for foreign language mac sites for proof. I have stumbled across some german ones. And last time I checked that qualified as Europe.
Asia I dont know about.

As for market share, of course vista will win out there seeing as OEM PC manufacturers pretty much have to sell windows to make money, and their licencing agreements with Microsoft pretty much forces them to ship with the latest microsoft OS to boot. Seeing as PC's are still by far the dominant platform for home use, of course vista's market share will gain quickly on OSX.

I bet though, the OSX crowd will probably like it more than the masses getting force fed Vista.

Hehe... that reminds me of a definition my mum's science teacher told her class; that "viscosity" meant "the degree of treacleness". Which I thought was very cool.

Anyway, I live in Europe and I use a Mac with OS X installed.

Jim in the Forest___________________You sound like one of those snot nosed kids back in high school that thought that the brand of car that their parents bought was the best.
Here at this house we have four Macs, Two Compaq laptops, Two generic PC's set up to boot windows from the HD's But with the CD-Rom slots filled with Live Distros of Linux depending on what I wish to do.

Any body here used OSX on a Compaq? Wondering how much work to set it up to dual boot?

And your point would be, what? ... that marketshare is somehow an indication of product superiority? Hmm-m...interesting premise. Try floating that one by the folks at certain European car manufacturers and see what they think.

Oh, and try not to take cartoons so seriously -- bad for the blood pressure, you know. [Smile]

I use a Mac and have for a few years now. I live in Dublin, Ireland. Also, we use a Mac server at work. Also, my sister, Mom and Dad amd cousin have recently bought Macs. I'm upgrading to Leopard from Panther as soon as it's availlable. A friend at work is buying Apple TV. I want and iPhone, but I digress.

Woops! Pardon the spelling mistakes, I wrote that in a hurry after reading the comment about Europeans not being into Macs. What is that person basing that on? Have they ever been to Europe?

Stayed in Malaysia for 10 years.

All ad agencies and top geeks were with G4s and Ibooks. And the government had put out a cheap Linux PC, and turned a blind eye to windows piracy, so Id say the 50% Windows penetration is 90% pirated copies.

And the government has actually put Vista on a black list, as the DRM protection schemes seemtobreak many a privacy rule, sending all sorts of info to the net.

Oh, and Im inBrazil now, our government is 70% open-source.
