This has been a really tough week for us, as NitroKitty has been very ill. We've taken her back and forth from the vet's almost every day, and she had surgery over the weekend, where they removed a partial obstruction from her small intestine. The vets were hoping that was what was making her sick, but unfortunately her condition has only improved a little and nothing specific has been found wrong with her yet. She hasn't been eating or drinking for almost a week now, so we're pretty scared we're going to lose her. [Frown]

She's at the vet's again today, getting intravenenous fluids, and perhaps a feeding tube in the hopes that she'll get her appetite back. We get the results of some biopsies tomorrow, the vets are wondering whether a stomach problem has aggravated an unlining condition. The good news is that she's been really healthy for years, so she went into this in pretty good shape. And she has improved slightly since the surgery, just hasn't got her appetite back.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you folks know what was up, as we'll probably be running a retro comic or two until this cat-crisis is over.

Snaggy_____________We bring these pets into our lives and don't realize how much they get under our skin until they get sick. I do wish that your beloved pet regains her vigar.

Snaggy, Nitro, I'm so sorry. I hope Nitrokitty is better soon.

Has the vet said anything about tempting her with goodies like tuna or a homemade chicken broth?

Aw man. I hope she pulls through. Animals are so pathetic when they're sick. They suffer like we do, but they don't seem to understand what's happening to them, so they get confused as well as miserable. [Frown]

I hope NitroKitty recovers soon, it's always hard when the little house-lions get ill. It would be a nice christmas gift to see her leaping around again.

Isn't it strange how we don't realise quite how much we let the little critters get to us till they are ill

and yeah the fact that they are sick and often totally bemused just makes it worse...

hope it turns out alright...

I'll send a prayer for NitroKitty to the spirit of Sir Isaac Newton, who loved cats greatly. After disposing of some trivial scientific problems, he turned his great mind to his greatest gift to the human race, the invention of the cat flap.

Seriously though, I hope all goes well for you all.

I agree. It is worth it but people are willing to spend any amount of money on their animals because they are part of the family by the time something goes wrong.

As an animal lover I hope she gets better. Animals are very strong so I am not very worried as they heal mostly on their own.

Snag...can we see a pic of her? All parents should have at least one pic of their "child."

Snaggy, I sympathize. Our baby girl Star has been throwing up an awful lot recently...Pamela's not sure exactly what it could be, and we don't really have the money to get her checked out at this point. So we're keeping an eye on her, giving her Petromalt to try and clear any hairballs she may have, plus the occasional Pepcid (yes, cats can take that) to try and calm her stomach. She is 14 years old, though, so it's possible she may just not be around a whole lot longer. (She is still eating, though, even if she occasionally has trouble keeping it down...Pamela's going to get some tuna and some baby food for her later today to see if that's easier on her stomach.)

Here's hoping both NitroKitty and Star see some better days soon!

NItroKitty is doing better, thank goodness! I held her in my arms as she got the IV fluids, and she ate a little from my finger, so things are looking up! [Happytears] This morning she's not in the mood for eating, she must be pretty tired, she still threw up once at night. What a little fighter, she's really doing good, I think. I hope. I'm amazed at Vet medicine, they really have a lot of treatments for our treasured critters.

We'll probably take her in today to get the feeding tube put in. They said it's not as bad as it sounds, it's an easy procedure, and it's saved a lot of animals lives. I'm just baffled about what it could be, I guess we'll find out when the biopsy results come in.

I just love this little cat! She's just been so much fun and such a light in our lives. She'll make it. I know it. So here are some pics, I hope you enjoy, and I'll give her all the hugs and kisses from you! Thanks so much for your support, it's so comforting in hard times. [hearts]

(P.S.) Thanks for the tip about the tuna juice, the vet did mention it, I'm going to try that right now!
