How come a TV show set in Sweden has actors speaking with British accents? FS and Maswan, clear up this conundrum?

If it's this show you're talking about, it's a BBC production, based on the Swedish novels.

Given that it's in English, with British actors, I'd probably prefer the actors use their own accents than do a bad impersonation of the Muppets Swedish Chef.

The BBC's also been showing the original Swedish production with subtitles as well if you want the accents [Smile]

The Swedish Wallander is one of the best things on UK TV. I only discovered it quite recently, but am completely hooked now. Krister Henriksson is a wonderful subtle actor, and Johanna Sällström is equally impressive, which makes her own tragic suicide all the more distressing. Such a waste. If you like crime fiction, Henning Mankell is from the top drawer, and though not quite so widely read in the UK, is overall the most successful crime writer in Europe. Because of him, and the success of Stieg Larsson's Millenium trilogy, Scandinavian crime fiction is currently enjoying a renaissance here in the UK, and not without reason, because it is very good. So if you enjoy left wing socially aware crime fiction with a dollop of bleak Nordic gloom, jump in, the water is freezing, but lovely.
