I know we have some members and former members of the military here on the boards, and many of us have friends and family connected with the military. I wanted to say to everyone who served, thank you. Thank you for risking your lives, providing support, and taking time from your families just to help keep everyone else safe. We all appreciate the time you took (are taking) to serve, even those of us who don't like the current Commander-In-Chief. Thank you, and happy Veterans' Day.

Absolutely. I do not agree with the current administration, but never would I speak down about the men and women that lay their lives down for us.

Precisely. Regardless of whether you agree with the wars or not, the fact of the matter is, they were willing to go out there and lay their lives on the line for their country and its people, and they deserve all the respect and honour in the world for it.

This pretty much sums up my view about the current administration...

They only started the war.
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah.

I had a grandfather and will soon have a brother who was/is in the military, and I also have a friend in the Air Force who is currently preparing to go to Qatar.

What about this business with ABC subsidiaries not showing 'Saving Private Ryan'? What a crock of shit? I think on Veterans' Day you can forgive the odd four-letter word if the message is worthwhile. [shake head]

Yeah, that really sucked. The local affiliate banned it. It was in the TV listings as showing, but when I tuned in, there was some BS announcement that the stations mangement felt that it was innappropriate for it to air at the early hour of 8PM. There's been several opinions as to why some of the affliates did this. One is that they were scared that the FCC would fine them since the FCC's crack down after the Janet Jackson incident. I think this is bullshit. How would the FCC look if they fined a station for showing Private Ryan? The other opinion is that these affliates (owned by consevative corporations like BELO and Scripps-Howard) didn't want people to see the horrors of war because of the current situation in Iraq. People with loved ones over there might be moved to see what crap war actually is and decide that Iraq just isn't worth it. I go with the second opinion myself.

So let me get this straight. In America, you can kill tens of thousands of innocent people in a far away land, but don't you dare use the f bomb on tv. [Roll Eyes]

It showed here. I watched the whole thing, f-bombs and all. They had a brief announcement after every commercial break advising that there was graphic violence and use of strong adult language. It must be because I'm in the pansy liberal pinko commie Bay Area. [Wink]

Josh had never seen it before so it was a good experience to watch it again, but I had some weird dreams afterward.

I have that movie. Didn't watch it because my wife won't watch war movies with me. We spent last night working on a new website.

Hey Cap'n, you may not get it. But we only want to see violence on good wholesome programming like MTV and the only way a true American will tolerate the f word is on the new 50 cent album.

Geez you people just don't it.
