Interesting and scary entry over at Unsanity, about the extremes a software publisher went to in order to stop piracy.

"If a pirated serial number is entered, the software erases the user's Home directory."

OUCH! That is EVIL. [devil wand]

The software has been changed since this went public, and there's been a lot of effort to hide the name of the software company that did this.

(Apparently it's Echelon)

anyway here's the link...

Isn't that illegal in some way, shape or form? Destruction of prooperty, perhaps? It should be illegal. That's just sick. I could understand deleting the program...but no. They should be sued for everything they're worth.

If you watch 'The History Of NASA' backwards, it's about a space agency that has no manned spaceflight capability, then does low-orbit flights, then lands on the Moon.

I feel sorry for the developer, though - he installed this delting thing after a piracy ring stole the serial#. He did this to piss them off, because they called him a f---ing developer. Would you like it if you wrote an app, someone pirated it, then called you a fscking developer? Oh yeah, Digial Schism (the company) is offline...they've stopped selling it. It stil would've been better to code only the pirated ser#s in cause if someone types it wrong by accident, they get punished unneccesarily.
