1. I wasn't sure where this should've been posted.

2. My main reason:

is l33t copyrighted by anyone? for i have only seen l33t in megatokyo ( [thumbsup] ) and some people using it for the hell of it. Yet i am sure it is bigger than that. And was wondering if you needed permission, royalties (or anything of the sort) to publish with l33t as part of the content?

1. i think this could go in "as a geek"

2. i know a lot of hackers who use 1337 and i often find it usefull when gaming. dont think it is copywrited though. I also find that when i am reading a story in 1337 that i start to see things. like extra numbers that dont exist. try this.

Heh, I was going pretty fast... But I gave up halfway through...

l33t IMOHO was invented by a bunch of skr1pt kiddiez, or crackers or summat to hide their bad spelling...

Lets put it this way l33t used to be cool. I know how everyone hates it because of the script kiddies and whatnot, but it wasnt always that way. I remenber a time when one could type away little numbers and nobody had any idea what you were saying. Now the cool thing to do is write in binary
code:
01001010011101010111001101110100001000000110101101
10100101100100011001000110100101101110011001110010

Please, there's absolutely no point in posting this stuff in binary if their's a converter out there. If you really want to be cool, use double ROT13 encryption, with a grammar clarity mode set high up.

Leet is not copyrighted by anyone as far as I know. (I don't think anyone can.) The closest thing really is the printed version of the Jargon File known as the "New Hacker's Dictionary". It explains some of the background as well as some basic uses. ( Jargon File - Leet Lexicon )

I am not a Lawyer (IANAL) but I don't think anyone *could* copyright leet speak now. This is because of it's wide (relatively speaking) use as well as the difficulty one would face proving they had "prior art".

In short, I would use it wherever you see fit. Just be careful around the GC as it may evoke violent tendencies in some. [Smile]

Can't we ban this shit from our lovely site? I hereby tender the motion that we outlaw all this asshole-speak that these feckin' brain-donor kiddies keep coming up with. I realize we can't legally shoot the kiddies themselves (oh, wouldn't that be sweet!) But can't we at least bully them into speaking legible English?

Ewww... gives me a headache.

I have a friend who IMs me in l33t (or however you say it). I repeatedly ask him to stop, and he goofs on it. He thinks it's cool. He won't get the point that I really don't care for it, and I'm getting annoyed at him for continuing.

(This is one geek that's right under my nose that I am just going to pass by.)
