It is said that if you have trouble solving this puzzle you may have "Alzheimer's disease and/or dementia"

and should seek a physicians treatment.

Yeah...that's just trippy and took me ... um ...
(Actually, I won't go for the cheap joke as it strikes a little too close to home. Seen that up close and it's really a cruel way to go. [Frown] )

It is a simple jigsaw - I see no reason to link it to dementia... if you are over about 3 years old and under 130 and can't do it you need help for sure - but I doubt a Dr (or anyone else) would say it was for Dementia/CJD/Alzheimer's... Iren Syndrome, some sort of Dyslexia, clinical stupidity... sure someone with dementia/Alzheimer's might have difficulty with it - but by the time you are so confused or forgetful you can't do that... well I think a few other serious pointers may have put up red flags to your family and/or health professionals...

And I see nothing on that page but the simple puzzle - though I will take your word MoMan that somewhere previous to going there something suggested what you have said

Oh you'd be surprised.
Years ago, for my sins, I was working in a job where I read huge piles of medical records.
The evidence of the physical ailments was fairly straightforward, x-rays, blood tests, the obvious lack of a limb, that kind of thing.
The evidence in the psychiatric or brain injury cases was more subtle, and often consisted of asking the patient to draw some simple shape, like a house, cube, clock, or bicycle. For those in the biz, the amount and kind of difficulty you have doing that tells a lot.
Which i found quite disturbing, I couldn't draw a bicycle to save my life.

To make sure I had not been led astray, I searched on : Alzheimer's + Puzzles

Here is one of the finds:

CBS News

So I am guessing that Sudoku, and crosswords would be good exercise. I have also read that walking on uneven ground helps keep your right/left hemispheres connected.
