@TheMoMan I realize you're trying to be helpful and you have no way of knowing that I've been receiving tons of unsolicited medical advice from relatives this entire time. I consider myself a pretty smart person. I've been doing a bunch of reading and in addition to seeing my regular doctor(s) I'm getting a second opinion from a highly respected specialist in a completely different facility. From where I'm sitting, I've done my homework. And now I'm getting a little tired of other people coming in and telling me what I should or shouldn't be doing with my own body. Even the doctors are only telling me what they think the options are and the risks/benefits of each. None of them has tried to push me into a decision.
I know you're trying to help, but please don't. Right now unless you've got an MD, a relevant PhD, or also have experience with having to go to the bathroom 37 times in a day I'm not really interested. And it's not your fault, I've just had too many people pushing things on me.

thanks for the link grumpy, this is precious
"After a great deal of effort, I found a dermatologist willing to experiment on me. Many doctors that I spoke with refused saying that they were afraid that they would "ruin" my face...My entire face was dermabraded. In other words, a dermatologist sanded off the top layer of the skin on my face."
You say you had trouble finding a dermatologist to sand of the skin on your face, hmmm. Are you sure the one you ended up with in the end was really a dermatologist.

So what have you done to celebrate being home besides a big family snuggle? Does Kaitlin like being monkey in the middle? DM loves to climb in bed and be monkey.

Haven't really had the energy for anything celebratory. We've ordered in Chinese food, but that would have happened anyway since I haven't had the energy to cook either. I'll probably feel more like celebrating when this is all over, whenever that happens.
In the meantime I'm still feeling pretty bad. The doctor has me excused from work for at least the next month, which may turn into a longer period depending on if surgery happens and what recovery from that is like. In the meantime I've applied for temporary state disability.
Monday is a follow-up appointment about my hospital stay, Tuesday is my appointment with the specialist for a second opinion, and Wednesday I'm supposed to get a call from the surgeon. Until then it's just a waiting game.

Hang in there. DM says, "Tell her to feel better and eat broccoli." (She thinks broccoli is a magical food.)

How are you doing this week? Maybe if you can't eat the magic broccoli, you could wave it like a wand over your tummy.

@fs No worries about tardiness, things aren't really over yet anyway.
As for how I'm doing, I'm doing about the same now as I was in the hospital. I saw another specialist yesterday to get a second opinion and he didn't have anything new to offer. Which on the one hand is a bit disappointing, but on the other at least I feel like I've done what I should to know I'm doing the right thing. The surgeon was supposed to call me today, but I still haven't heard from him. I will be going ahead with the surgery at some point though. It's going to be an adjustment, but right now I can't participate in my own life and after surgery and recovery I'll be able to again.
I'll be sure to let everyone know when I have a date for going back in the hospital. It will probably be very soon.

Peebs - a late message of good wishes from the UK.
My excuse for lateness? - well, I just didn't know what to say really, I just hope things work out as well as they possibly can, as quickly as they possibly can.

Um... I just realized I've been following this topic all along but failed to register my own well-wishes. So here they are -- I hope everything goes well and you're through this and back to full participation in your family and life in general with all possible speed.

More slowly than I'd like. But last week I had an appointment with a surgical nurse who determined the placement for my stoma and on Friday morning I go in for surgery. I am so ready to get this over with. I've been out sick from work for a month now and I've spent most of that time sleeping or lying in bed trying not to hurt. I'll be in the hospital for another 5 days or so post-surgery and then at home recovering for a few weeks after that before I can go back to work. I can't wait. At least after friday I'll hurt differently than I do now.

Okay, going in tomorrow at 9:30. I'm a little nervous, but mostly eager to get it over with! It is time to get this thing done.
Thanks for all the well-wishes. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted. Though don't be surprised if it takes a couple of days. I imagine I'm going to be quite loopy most of tomorrow.

Sorry it took me so long to update here. First it took me a while to settle in, then it, er, took me a while to remember my password.
As far as the surgeon told me, things went pretty well. We managed to do everything laproscopically and that part is doing well. I'm still all swollen and bloated from a)lack of movement and b)my steroid prescriptions, but those are supposed to get better in a few days as I do Physical Therapy and we cut back on the steroids.
There were some minor complications with an unknown infection right afterward. I had a fever, rapid pulse, and very low blood pressure. I was even in the ICU for a while and didn't end up in a regular room until last night. So this will take longer than expected. Still, it's pretty impressive how much I've improved every day.
Okay, good night everybody. And @Rhonwyyn, I PM'd you here to confirm your name and DM'd the person on FB I thought was you (cant be sure when the only photo i could see was knitting kneedles),but no answer to either! Could you reply to one so I know for sure who I'm friending?

::does happy dance:: I'm glad it went well and hope you get to go home soon.
When I had surgery done laproscopically, the gas moved to my shoulders and hurt a bit. I found a heating pad helped.
Thinking healthy Peebs thoughts really hard.
