We're here in Whistler and the Blackcomb Gondola just had a tower failure. One of the towers near the bottom of the mountain snapped in half and several of the cabins fell to the ground. Many people are trapped in the gondola cabins right now, and it is COLD out there. Tons of police and firemen everywhere, and they seem to have it all under control.

The whole town is a-buzz, and people are in shock that this could happen. We were lucky, we were on the Whistler gondola at the time, so we're fine.

here's a pic...

Oh. My. God.

That is not supposed to happen. Ever. That's one of a skier/snowboarder's worst nightmares.

mmb, are you still there? Please check in...

I hope everyone got out ok from that.

While this may just have been some other freak cause, this sort of thing is going to start happening more often now climate change is kicking in. Because we're getting freakily lower temperatures a lot of metal structures are getting out of the range of temperatures they were engineered for so steel structures for instance will become super brittle.

Holy crap.

I've been stuck on one of those things for half an hour while they fiddled with the works, but...

but...

Holy crap.

Hmmmm

It seems to have been caused by Ice Jacking

Let's be thankful nobody was hurt and the skiers were warmly dressed.
