(edit: as pointed out below, this is quite wrong, the full embarassing wrongness preserved below for historical interest)

Tristram Cary, radar-geek, synthesiser pioneer, and all-around electro-music-geek died last week in Adelaide, he was 82.

His legacy lives on in the works of Pink Floyd, The Who, and of course the most hauntingly distinctive TV theme music ever, Doctor Who.

Na-uh.

Although he (apparantly, according to wikipedia) wrote musc for Dr who, the theme was not by him.
It was written by Ron Grainer, but it was Delia Derbyshire who really made it happen. There was a lovely show about a year ago regarding the radiophonic workshop on BBC 3 or 4.

Fuller details here.

May I suggest an edit, then? [Razz]

Also, just for sosumi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtdGwiMtZ08
(A slightly different version!)

And for those who actually want something related to the original theme:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6017617116239998057&q=original+doctor+who+theme&ei=Pf8VSP6XO4jI-gHmutCcBQ

However, none of the above has anything to do with the recently deceased!

I know not of this chap. However I know of Ron Granger and thr realization by Deiah Derbyshire. Incidentally I have ancient customer who knew Deliah, he told me stories about her at BBC Radiophonic.

A slightly different version of John Barrowman's voice can be heard here

And if you want to listen to David Tennant's real voice

Gallifrey?
Closer to Gallowgate if you ask me.

Ha - did you not think I was geeky enough to already have that entire Weakest Link episode tucked away? You might be surprised at who won! [Razz]

Anyway, I've found quite a few Who Theme mix/mash up artists around; some of the stuff is quite good. However, one of my favorite versions, aside from the Murray Gold/Wales National Orchestra 10th Doctor, was by Orbital (link to mp3).

*sigh* I tried. [Wink]

If it's a decent surprise, I'd guess it wasn't David or John, and I sincerely hope it wasn't Rose's mum, so I'd have to go with the bird who I barely recognise. [sic on that, Firefox.en_US!] It'd be cool if it was the head of Torchwood London, but I'm guessing not...and I won't even take the Mickey to guess in another direction. [Razz] Pity they didn't have Sarah Jane...

What have you got against Rose's mum? And Mickey did well. K-9, however, pooped out early. [Razz]

I think you can find it all in six parts from this page - part one

Oopsie - found a stream of it - Who Weakest Link

I thought you were referring to the opening of Beethoven's 5th symphony with that. I guess I'll have to hand in my geek card for saying this, but I've never actually watched Dr. Who, even though I know most of the major plot points.
