So I have a question, once that bill is put forth, would that void all their signatures on the petition because they no longer have suffrage? Would that become some endless loop?

Alright, I need a drink.

Ahhhh it was funny how that guy in the background knew what it was, and the women didn't.

Honestly.... I didn't know that.

Coincidentally, about half of the worlds population are female... [evil]

I don't think it's stupidity so much as complacency - I didn't see any surprised reactions when they found out that 'suffrage' meant the right to vote. He asked them, so they signed. It's like that study that found most people will give away passwords for chocolate.

I used to have a t-shirt that said "end womens sufferage". Very few people got the joke.

If I recall correctly, haven't they done a few studies and found that the average vocabulary is shrinking?

I commonly find that my vocabulary consists of about 4-8 words, the longest being about 6 letters long.

Hooray? [Razz]

It's pretty simple psychology, hands them the paper so they have to take it, then gives them the pen, and drones on at them the whole time and reinforces what they're doing. I swear he also actually says sufferage at some points, maybe it's just the accent.

It's easy to get swept up in that kind of thing though, I'm sure.

You know, I didn't actually notice that [Razz]

You only have a vocabulary of 4-8 words?

And even if you meant your word length is 4-8 letters, surely the longest would be about 8? Or possibly above, seeing as you said that that's what's common but not the extent of your vocabulary?

Pick, pick, pick. [Big Grin]

Not bad, but really repetitive and poorly produced (this was obviously amatuer video, which is fine). In the end it's more of a vocabulary and nervousness test than anything else. Very Stanley Milgramish because the "authority figure" has a microphone and a camera pointed at him, and young people are usually intimidated by such displays of psuedo authority (I used to work in television and saw this many times).

What I don't like about such productions is that people usually come out of them thinking "wow, are people stupid". The producers then feel superior because they can intimidate people with a mic and a camera. Such "experiements" don't usually make any sort of point about anything and remain more of a parlour trick than anything substantive.

So don't worry; people really aren't this stupid. People just don't know how to act when filmed. Some people's minds literally turn off in front of a camera, and they're sitting ducks for projects like this one.

If the producers were really concerned about lack of vocabulary skills (is that the message here? I'm not sure what it is), they'd teach people what the word meant rather than insult them by throwing a camera in their faces and bullying people to sign. THEN you might have something useful. This just produced yuks and nothing more.

I really do think the point of this video was to mock this school. You could see in the guy's face that he sure wasn't taking it very seriously. I believe his overall point is that "smart" kids aren't completle god like intellects. From what I heard though kids from his all boys school weren't allowed to that school again [Wink]
