Dolphins have names for each other.

I read this article and the first thing that popped into my head was that some mother is going to give thier child a dolphin name. A series of high pitched squeaks.

I wonder if the dolphins also name thier human trainers. I think it would be really cool to have a name in dolphin.

Ashitaka,

This is very interesting indeed. I spent my elementary school years in that area, and recall to this day two summer days when dolphins came around where my friends and I were fishing. When they showed up, we'd go swim with them and they would play with us.

As I look back I recall their name for me was, "Nee, Neeee, Aha-aha, click-click," which roughly translated meant, "Skippy." Not the most flattering name to be sure. However not the worst, either.

A friend still living in the area tells me the the Dolphins have their own name for the Governor of Florida, "Click, Nyah-uh-huh-nyah-ah," meaning, "Brother of the Idiot."

Dolphins are not only smart, but they seem to have a sense of humor, too!"
