Okay. Before you kill the old garlicguy for this bit of spam, I did get permission from the BD's to make this announcement. Before I do, two things:

First: This is the first official announcement of these changes anywhere.

Second: This means there'll be another giveaway coming along.

The announcement(s):

We have a new formulation for our Garlic Head Sauce; Two really.

For openers, the original sauce is now being made totally vegetarian, totally without preservatives and totally allergen free! We're pretty excited about this. Also, it will now be packed in glass jars instead of plastic. That was a trade off. We liked the unbreakable jars, but couldn't get rid of the preservatives without switching to glass.

Also, when this new batch becomes available (about a month from now), we will introduce our 'Spicy' version of Garlic Head - we've had lots of requests for this. It will also be free of allergens and preservatives and will be vegetarian.

Let me know what you think - either here or on the website.

Thanks.

Will it be just spicy or will it still be sweet like the original version?

FWIW, glass can be recycled far more efficiently. I'm sure you can tout that to some of your more eco-interested veggies. [Smile]

Peebs, I'm so glad you asked.

I've never been a fan of blow-your-head-off-hot-spicy. In fact, until I got serious about this new spicy recipe, I didn't use hot or spicy or peppery seasonings at all.

But through the recipe development process(including lots of tasting), a funny thing happened - I started liking the spicy heat, so long as there was still a lot of flavor.

So to answer your question more directly: The new spicy sauce is basically the original with some heat. Our teenagers are insane for it, and I have to admit I'm starting to prefer it myself. It is as flavorful as the original, but even more complex due to the addition of the heat.

Who said you can't teach and old dog new tricks? [Wink]

Damn it. And right after you just shipped some to me this week. I might have to pick some up and give it a try. I don't particularly care about the preservatives or vegetarian part, but the spicy would be nice to try.

Really...... such a product actually exists?..... a spicy, garlicy BBQ sauce?
I'll have to try it when it's made.

Do you have anywhere in Atlantic Canada that sells it, or will I have to order straight from you??

--> if you don't have any local-type distributors... may I suggest that you get ahold of the folks at Sobey's groceries.... they're usually fairly receptive to new products.

Anchovy Paste, a common ingredient in Worcestershire Sauce.

Right! Eat it and you may live forever. Either that, or you won't require additional embalming after you croak.

canadiangeek (and others):
Garlic Head is not presently available in any stores in Canada, though we're working on that. Tell your favorite grocer you'd like to see it on their shelves, and then refer them to the website.
In the meantime, if you order from the website yourself, please note that additional shipping fees apply to orders outside the USA.

mmmmmmmmmm - garlic!

mmmmmmmmmm - spicy!

I can't wait. I really like spicy stuff - maybe I can convince my kids and wife to try it as they love the regular garlic sauce.

As for being vegitarian - no biggie for me - I always use it on top of real meat. Hey - my family just got done making sausage last weekend - maybe it's time for some sausage fresh from the smoker with cheese and garlic sauce. -- drool --

After the first giveaway I ordered a case and it's just about gone now. Took longer than I figured to use it up, but it is good.

I would love to try the spicy version! I've missed the Garlic Head since I haven't been able to eat garlic, now I can again though. And I'm the kind of person who puts lots of Franks Red Hot on my food, I'm sure I would like the spicy sauce.

I'll definitely buy a jar of the new sauce once it comes out. Keep us posted!

I noticed that Shoprite will start carrying it soon. That ought to be exciting; those supermarkets are very popular around here.

A very sincere thank you to all for your positve comments.

Availability: Thanks for the warning about the Osborne Effect, Snaggy. With that in mind - It'll be available when it's available and not a moment before nor a moment later. [Big Grin] (We're hopeful it will ship before the end of May, but are not in the position of promising anything at the moment.)

The original recipe product should currently be on the shelves of 125 of the ShopRite stores in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Eastern Pennsylvania (or so I'm told). Anyone visiting those stores in that area kindly let me know if you are seeing it there or not.

sosumi and BW: I cannot wait until you try the 'spicy' version, since the ingredients you mention are precisely those used in adding heat to our recipe. Doco: We will make provision on the website for ordering mixed quantities of each product. We hope to add our Garlic Head Steak Sauce and Garlic Head Salad Dressing yet this year and a Garlic Head Skordalia in the future.

We'll see...

Once we have the new products in hand, we'll announce our next GC giveway, with the BD's help, of course.

Awesome...I've been using the standard garlic sauce as a marinade in my stir fry, and I find that red chili flakes steep into it in a very tasty fashion, so having an already-spicy version would be easier and tasty as hell.

(And yes, I've still got sauce left from winning The Big Package. I use it to make chicken, burgers, stir fry, steak, and just about any other meal containing meat that I make.)

This is a difficult post for me. I hate to say negative things in forums, but I simply don't like the Garlic Head Sauce. I don't mean that to be rude, but let me say where I am coming from.

I'm an extreme eater. I'll do straight wasabi against all comers. I grow my own Red Habaneros and bottle my own sauce from them. I eat raw ginger root as a snack.

Given that, the sauce is far too sweet and not garlicky enough. The garlic is powdered, and not fresh ground. It's a fine light barbeque dressing, but not something that I would cook with otherwise. I think the big problem is the overpowering sweetness. High-fructose corn syrup does not belong in food - ever. Anything labeled "garlic sauce" should have garlic as the first or second ingredient.

I'm a fan of Cajun Power Garlic Sauce because it's got a kick that I like. I don't get the same jolt out of the Garlic Head sauce.

Wheeew. That's a load off my mind. Still, don't take my word for anything. My wife gets the willies when I eat a whole fish with the head on. She gets unnerved by the eye's staring at her. I find the taste more authentic.

There is room for all of god's creatures. Right next to the potatoes. [Big Grin]
