How eight pixels cost Microsoft millions
By Jo Best
Silicon.com

Microsoft's lack of multicultural savvy cost the Redmond behemoth millions of dollars, according to a company executive.

The software giant has seen its products banned in some of the biggest markets on earth--and it's all because of eight wrongly colored pixels, a dodgy choice of music and a bad English-to-Spanish dictionary.

Yea, I was reading about that yesterday on /.

It's funny to think a company with a market cap of how many quadrillion can't even do a little homework on the products they create.

.. although, it's not like they've ever overlooked anything else in their software. [Roll Eyes]

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down? Why, sir, I believe if you take a blowtorch to them you can melt them over. Proof that your product is faulty...

If they were that behind the times, they wouldn't be taking our jobs writing software. This article (there was a better one linked of /. last week, *cough* twice *cough*) was a summary of problems Microsoft has faced with regard to political correctness/global sensitivity/i18n/l10n/what-have-you.

If you're interested in stuff like this, I recommend Raymond Chen's blog The Old New Thing. His "Code" and "History" categories of posts are full of all kinds of interesting Microsoft tidbits, including a lot of "why things were done the way they were done" type of material.
