Anyone catch George Bush and his gong show of a press conference yesterday?

He was like a deer in the headlights answering some of those questions, I couldn't stop laughing. I think he pretty much killed any chance of getting re-elected.

What was the Douglas Adams quote? Something along the lines of "merely wanting to be a politician should be sufficient reason for disqualification from the process"?

Or something...

And it is very annoying how he has a grin on his face when he talks about people getting killed and other bad news. And how he nods his head after he says a big word and is proud of himself.

All this talk about Iraq being the new Vietnam is just ridiculous.
The two situations are completely different.

Bush went to great lengths to stay out of Vietnam.

If you watch 'The History Of NASA' backwards, it's about a space agency that has no manned spaceflight capability, then does low-orbit flights, then lands on the Moon.

Democracy means rule by the people, and as history has showed in the past, negligent leaders cause their nation's downfall.

AHHH MOTHERLAND!!!!!!!

Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics,
Great Russia has welded forever to stand.
Created in struggle by will of the people,
United and mighty, our Soviet land!

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us,
Along the new path where great Lenin did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labor and valorous deed.
[Or, the old way:
Be true to the people, thus Stalin has reared us,
Inspire us to labor and valorous deed!]

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

In the vict'ry of Communism's deathless ideal,
We see the future of our dear land.
And to her fluttering scarlet banner,
Selflessly true we always shall stand!

[Big Grin] Ha ha - just think - the NSA probably has us all on a list somewhere just for reading TFD's posts.

I'm hoping there's one other difference between Vietnam and Iraq - with luck there won't be half a dozen crappy Oliver Stone movies about this war.

You give them far too much credit.
Most of them are too busy studying for their umpteenth re-sit of the exam on 'techniques for arse-elbow differentiation'.

Are you kidding?
Shadowy government conspiracies to fabricate an excuse to invade an oil-rich country, that's an Oliver Stone wet-dream.
