Hello,

I have a Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000. I recently purchased a Handstands brand Memory Foam Mouse Mat that is shiny-ish black. The packaging clearly says, "For Laser, Optical, & Standard Mice", however, my mouse will not work on the mouse mat when it is on a flat surface (i.e. the desk). However, I noticed that when I hold the mouse mat perpendicular to the desk (obviously not for use, I was just curious) and lay the mouse flat against it, it works.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

I stopped using a mouse pad when I got an optical mouse. Whenever someone tells me they're having problems with their optical mouse the 1st thing I ask is if they are using a mouse pad, they are. I tell them to try it without the mousepad and all is fine. The only thing that does not work well is a glass table or highly polished desk.

It's a mouse mat that's been produced for vertical markets, so it will only work when you stick it on a wall.

My optical mouse does not work on dark backgrounds, be it a mat or the surface of my desk. Something for you to think about.

I propped the mousepad up a tiny bit so that it is at a slight angle and the mouse now works without a problem. Strange, but I'm just glad it works, because I love the wrist support. [Smile]
