Okay i might just be a little tired and stupid but i felt like making a new topic about something since I haven't created anything for awhile and just been contributing.

As i was browsing my empty geek culture inbox (besides the lovely email from Jess - yay)I noticed that the number of stars you had was a "Weighted Score". Now i was expecting the title "Average Score" - meaning the mean is just calculated. But no it is a "Weighted Score" - so are certain ppl more important then others or is it just the title that the thing was given?

just something weird i came across and was just wondering about.

Weighted score means that a person-with-more-stars vote has more clout in the tally. So if you have been voted to have 5 stars by a lot of people, your vote for someone else counts more than a newbie with only one star's vote.

or something like that. Basically, in the long run, we are all just Sneeches. [Razz]

Nice snaggy - I was just wondering if it actually did a weighted average or if someone didn't understand the difference between a weighted average and just the mean.

I always assumed it was weighted by how long someone has been around.

garlic guy getting rated 1 star by some newb that just signed up today should get less weight than, say, steen, who has been around forever.

In practice it would, unless that newb somehow acquired a ton of five stars.

oh, I missed that part. I figured it just meant anybody with 5 stars had a greater weight, one voter or one hundred.

Despite being here forever, I got no stars upon ... err ... mars?

At any rate, I disallowed ratings when they were first implemented. I think someone may have slipped one in before I did, but I don't really remember.

So I'm... weightless? [Smile]

You're right... I enabled it briefly so that I could look and apparently nine people rated me before I turned it off way back when.

I guess the weightless feeling was just oxygen deprevation [Smile]
