I'm likely to get kicked off the university email soon, but I like it, and don't want to stop until absolutely necessary.

What I want to do is tell everyone I have a new email address (gmail), and get them using it before I switch.

This is fine for incoming mail - I have gmail forwarding all my mail. However, I want to change my outgoing mail to look like it's coming from gmail.com, although it will still be coming from my ed.ac.uk account.

I'm using pine 4.64.

You could easily set a custom reply to header. Some SPAM filters might be unhappy to see a message saying that it's from a gmail address but being relayed by your university - I think that the custom reply-to is the more appropriate way to do it.

You should also be able to change the outgoing mail server to the gmail server. But there may be ramifications to that that I haven't thought of, because I spent all of about 15 seconds thinking about it.

gmail requires me to type my password on every outgoing message. And it is sloooooow.

I think I could get rid of the password problem, but that would require recompiling pine, which I'm not too comfortable with.
