How often are new computers released with more updated/recent technology? I'm going to buy a laptop, but I was wondering if anyone knew when the next batch of new computers might be released onto the market. Thanks for any help. [Smile]

The short answer is "all the time"

The slightly longer answer is, many of those changes are quite small, and not really important to the average user. The good news for you is that there's just been a really big change, the introduction of the "dual core" processors, which effectively give you 2 processors in one chip, and reputedly produced a big performance increase.

This means you can either...

1. Buy one of the new dual-core laptops and get really good performance

or

2. Buy one of the recently superseded single-core models at a fraction of what they cost a few months ago.

Wait a couple months until Merom (Core 2) laptops start showing up, and you'll be able to get a machine with the original Core Duo processor dirt-cheap. Also, definitely go with dual-core - if you're using any software that supports dual processors, it'll make a world of difference. Photoshop seems to run quite a bit faster on my 1.66GHz Core Duo Thinkpad than on my 3.2GHz P4 desktop.
