Help...I WAS hosted with Spymac.com, not any more. Where is a good place to host a site through? I also will need to register a new domain. I do not need anything fancy, yet.

I've heard of godaddy.com, but what else is out there?

Thanks,
Thbull

Well, there's always ackoo.com

Or NearlyFreeSpeech.net

Or dreamhost.com

I wouldn't suggest godaddy to anyone -- they arbitrarily yanked a friend's domain registration because they didn't agree with his 'content' (it was harmless, basically a page he used to communicate with his friends), and gave him no reason, no recourse, and no help to even leave them.

The domain lapsed and was picked up by one of those maggot domainsquatters.

Basically, the ones dragonman said. I've been with Dreamhost for over three years now and I have nothing but praise for them.

This is one of the reasons I always keep domain purchases seperate from web hosting services. I buy domains from bulkregister but host my sites at interland (and others). If I ever get in a dispute with the hosting service, I still have full control over my domain and can rehost elsewhere in a few hours.

I might be incredibly biased, but I would highly recommend Ackoo [Smile]

His hosting was elsewhere! They changed his NS records to their own servers, and then made their servers return, "sorry, this site is temporarily down due to offensive content."

I use Ackoo for my mom's site and ICDSoft for most of my stuff.

Ackoo has, in my opinion, the more user-friendly control panel. My mom is able to do most of her site administration herself, and while she's not a complete luser, it certainly isn't her area of expertise.

ICDSoft I find has excellent support. The longest I have ever waited for them to respond to a ticket is about 15 minutes and their support does go above and beyond.
