Hello everyone. I have an iBook G4 that is giving me fits. I installed Tiger on it. We had to have the keyboard replaced because an invisible pixie spilled something (no one in human form knows anything about it). The mac guys fixed it for me cause I bring them cookies and apple turnovers. I downloaded a software update last night, and now I have a desktop with no menu bar, no icons, no dock. I reset the PRAM and the PMU - nothing. I will be looking for advice.....

Have you got a whole desktop pic, or has maybe the screen resolution got messed up? If you have that many computers at home, can you network it and try to access it over the network from another machine?

After the boot chime try holding down shift. If it boots up correctly (safe boot) you might have a software conflict, font problem or a startup/login item that is locking up. See link below for more information on what safe boot turns off.

Did you do an upgrade install when you installed Tiger or a clean install?

From what I've been reading, quite a few people have been having issues with the latest security update. Check out sites such as MacFixit for some insight. There is also a story about it at MacNN .
I'm holding off a bit longer before I run it on my Mac.

Bibo, fwiw I have installed the latest patch on 2 G5 DP towers, a G5 iMac and 2 G4 iBooks without a hitch or any hint of a problem...

Just so you know...
