Hello again, everybody. I want to make a point that I do love posting on here, but that late at nights -especially on weekends- I would rather have a group chat session which would be much faster as well as more practical.
I know that there used to be a chat on here, but is there a way that us geeks could have our own room or something? I have aim and MSN messenger, so maybe we could take turns creating rooms on there?

Go to: IRC, #JoyofTech channel

Someone else'll post Tut's link on how to use it. There's also a link on GC somewhere.

/me uses 'irc.slashnet.org' - I'm pretty sure it uses round-robin DNS.

I use eu.slashnet.org , because I'm in the EU. I don't know if it makes a difference, though. And it just redirects me to coruscant anyway.

You have to use an IRC client!

Yeah! Either that, or show up naked with beer. Or you could SYT and then ask for help.

I don't know what I was thinking... it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Okay, DM, when I go to #joytech or whatever, it just shows me users, but doesn't let me "sign-in"

It really sounds like you're just visiting the website, and not using an IRC client.

if you are not registering a nick.

All you have to do is log into the Slashnet server and after the MOTD type...

/nick <yournickname>

to join a channel

/join channelname

1. Go here:
http://www.slashnet.org/java.php

2. In the top left is a text box for the nick you want labled, surprisingly enough, "Enter Nick". Type the name you want to use in there and press Enter.

3. In the top right is a button that says Join. Click that.

4. A new window opens. In the top text box labled "Name" type:
#joyoftech

5. Click OK.

Shroom: I think her problem is that she can't figure out an IRC client.

If you can't figure it out from my step-by-step above, put it in a box and send it back to the company...

That meter has a serious case of the twitches. If I were you I'd take it back and get a replacement one that actually works.

Oh, and since I can't read the dial, humour me: does it read forwards (like voltage) or backwards (like resistance)?
