I am in charge of putting on a tax seminar at my university and I am trying to gather ideas for making taxes fun and or exciting or atleaste getting peoples' butts in the seats. These will almost all be college kids who probably don't even have to file, but will show up because I will offer prizes at the door. (they have to stay throught the whole thing to be eligable for the prize.)I am as a subpoint supposed to make it media friendly as well. So that it can make it onto the news for a night or two.

Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

You could try the approach these people use to make Calculus interesting.

(I actually found this googling for 'learning calculus' - honest)

unfortunatly I am at an uptight conservative school that won't allow those things... although I did ask. I thought a wet t-shirt contest for free tax perperation would be a fun little gag... but alas I was told no.

Well, maybe you can set up a "dunk the accountant" stall. I'm sure plenty of people would go for that [Wink]

Make up a tax game. Give someone $1000 in monopoly money, and have them spend it in class. Tax each transaction and show how the goverment ends up with it all.
