Awesome - assuming it's not a matter of JPEG artifacts @ high compression, the out-of-focus background looks like a watercolor painting. Tres cool!

Thank You Snaggy and Mr. Dragonman.

No, that is not arty facts at all. I try to compress as little as I can.

It is a 1/2 second exposure. It was a really, really windy day and I saw the sea gulls would just sit and sit, but then some would move all at once. Very funny.

So I thought it would be cool to cap-shur the birds moving and see the blur. Of course the waves blur too.

I think the judges liked the pick-shurs that looked like paintings at this show. That is what seemed like what won.

Thank you again. Maybe I will show more later.

Have a great day!

That look great! Did you use some sort of HDR technique, or did it just come out that way? I can never get daylight long exposures right, highlights always end up getting blown out.

It was cloudy and after sunset on a very stormy evening.

I shoot RAW and post in Aperture 3. With any of the major RAW convertors you can find an extra stop or two. Underexpose is better than over! Once you count to 255 then you can't come back -- bye-bye, CMYK ya later! Ha-ha!

For long exposures in daylight use ND filters, that is short for neutral density. Most days I'm a much heavier density. Just ask Mr.s Geek 2me!
