The JoyPoll

How do you think that star-dimmer switch actually works?

  • It's some sort of freaky alien magic.
  • Could it work by sending a cooling beam at the star?
  • It's actually not working, the aliens are staging a practical joke on another alien race, by setting up the prop star dimmer.
  • Betelgeuse is actually just the galaxy's biggest space heater, so the star dimmer works like a modern light dimmer, rapidly shutting the fusion reactions on and off to reduce the total amount of energy radiating from the star.
  • Obviously it's channeling cosmic rays through filaments of Nitrozanium, which increasing the substantial energy barrier of electrostatic forces within the atomic nuclei of the star, blocking quantum tunnelling, and nullifying the compressive effects of gravity, yet maintaining the confined environment.

We were an Amazon Associate for over 15 years, but soon after we published a comic unflattering to Amazon, they canceled our account.

When we tried to find out why, we received this reply... "under the terms of the Operating Agreement, we may terminate your account at any time, with or without cause. This termination is final and not subject to appeal." Gee, thanks Jeff.

But don't worry, we will still bite the hands that feed us, even if they don't help feed us anymore.

About us...

The Joy of Tech is a comic about technology and pop culture, created by Nitrozac and Snaggy, and updated three times a week. We like to feature the people and events that are making today's tech and pop culture news.

We've been making comics on the web since early 1999, starting off with After Y2K, and then The Joy of Tech, which is now in its whoa... 20th year!

You can follow us on Google+ at +Nitrozac JoT and +Snaggy JoT and +JoyofTech

We currently live on Vancouver Island, Canada, where we have a lovely perspective of the silicon valleys to the south. We make The Joy of Tech using Apple computers, mostly on a MacBook Pro and iMac, running Mac OS X. We use software from Apple, Adobe, BBedit, OpenOffice.org, and other fine purveyors of digital delights. Nitrozac uses a Wacom tablet to draw her illustrations.
