Hi All ________________________ I and the Mrs's moved way out here in the Boonies to get away from the Urban sprawl and its problems, now its following us.

Not that I blame the Indians they have owned the land for years, and are quite generous with the money they pass out to the community. I just don't want the traffic, and all the weekenders that come with this kind of developmant.

We had the same problem in Northern California, between the relaxing of environmental restrictions for them and the issues with increased crime and auto accidents along the travel corridor made it frustrating.
Having spent a little time on a reservation in Arizona which was a pit (before the casino folks came in), I understand the usefulness of the casinos. The problem is that the casinos are only benefitting a small portion of the people and a corporate casino interest, often hiring illegals over Native Americans.
Personally, I think gambling is a stupid vice, and people who drive off to play one-armed bandits for "fun" completely confuse me. Gambling makes me queasy because I know the odds are against winning; my great-grandfather once said to my grandparents that he didn't gamble because of the obnoxious, lavish decor, which he reasoned had to be paid for somehow. How people can turn that very simple concept off in their brains I will never know.
Sorry about the casino. I guess it's time to move again before the home values drop or someone in your family is killed on the way home because of a drunk driver.

Hi All _________________________ Actually the Indians built a huge Casino 23 years ago in the Center of the State. So over here where a lot of desendents live, the scale of living has been improving. The Tribal police Force is about half the size of the Sheriffs Patrol. The Indian Welfare office puts the States to shame, and all of the local indians get a stipend from the big casino.
However a large number of weekenders drive by Standish on their way up-north, So the Saganing Indians thought about how best to lighten the pockets of the weekenders.
We live about ten miles off the beaten path and it is usually guite quiet here, however the flatlanders that come up to our peaceful woods like to make a s$@tpot of noise. I just hope that they will continue up the road for their hell raising.

Here in MN we have something like 16 native American casinos. The one closest to the twin cities is Mystic Lake casino. It's located right next to Shakopee MN. Shakopee is a white trash paradise. You can see everything from mullets to rusted out pickups with $2000 rims on them. But they native Americans decided to destroy the one good place in that town. I did live there for a little bit and the only tolerable place in the whole city was a Park that was not all that easily accessable. It was actually a very pretty park with lots of open ground that you could take your kids to and have a nice picnic, throw around a ball and then go feed the ducks down by the river.
Well there are burial mounds in this park. And they have never been dug up and they looked nice. They had lush grass and made a very nice rolling effect in the park. Well the Native Americans decided that the city should stop mowing the mounds and let weeds grow on them. So they got fenced off and now the park looks horrible. It looks like some wasteland. Blowing garbage collects in the weeds and it just looks trashy. They destroyed the one good part of that town that was tollerable. And the park is not on the reservation.
The city of Chaska that is right next to Shakopee has the same thing with the mounds in a park but they won't cave to the preassure. And I'm glad because that park is right downtown Chaska and that would destroy the whole town if they did that.

Mrs Druid is (distantly) related to the people who run this place which seems to be a nice little earner. Sadly, a little too distantly related for us to be getting regular cheques.
What with all the casinos, and the sales of tax-free cigarettes on reservations, some of the survivors of our 'civilization' are doing quite well these days. It appeals to my sense of justice to see them getting rich from pale-face's vices.
MoMan: JJ's warning about drunk drivers is well worth heeding. Casa del Druid is about a mile from
this monstrosity and several of the street trees near us have little shrines dedicated to the memory of those who got rat-arsed and tried to drive home.

Well, since we're talking about tribal casinos, let me share a little story I found amusing. There exists a state in the US where it's illegal to play the game of roulette in a casino. However, it's perfectly OK to play card based gambling games...
So, how did they[1] deal with this? They created a roulette variant where the result is determined by drawing a single card out of a deck of 38, conveniently labelled 0, 00, and 1-36. However, to cover their backsides, the name "roulette" is not associated with the product in any way. The display which would normally show a pretty animation of a roulette wheel simply shows a list of numbered results. And in a really confusing move, the neighbours bet option was retained for this game, which is pretty strange given that it places a bet on all the numbers physically next to another number on a roulette wheel. Obviously meaningless when dealing with a deck of cards...
So, how exciting could it be to bet on this game? Apparently, it's doing really well at the casino, despite the fact all those involved in developing it thought it would flop....
Ah, the wonderful world of gambling...

As far as the one-armed bandits go, I agree with you. I don't see how those are entertaining at all unless you are just trying to get your gambling "fix". But some of the other games at casinos, e.g., poker, and blackjack, can be pretty fun to play at the small stakes table. I wouldn't go out to Las Vegas or anything just to do that, but I've had enough fun playing candy poker with my family to see how someone would.

Right. A beer or two with good friends is fun, but driving to the liquor store because you're too hammered to walk straight is another story.
