I am not sure I see the use for an I pad. although it is pretty cool with the exceptions of its many faults as well as Apple's disturbed ethics. hehe I am not disputing the fact that they make a fine product, because they do!

So this article/video made me laugh. I am all about geeking everything out but this will cause problems! ~an Ipad steering wheel mount???~

I'd buy it immediatly if it could do flash, it is exactly what I want for internet consumption, but
90% of the video I watch online is flash.

I suppose you have been scouting out the web for your eventual purchase of the iPad, well I guess you can post all your links here as a public service. [Wink]

Just thought I'd poke my head in and comment. I haven't had any surfing issues on my normal sites, and for those looking for non flash pr0n - tube8 work just fine in empirical testing.

Your iPad gets damaged when it either decapitates you, or seriously smacks you in the fact...which I suspect will invariably lead to Apple fanboys complaining about why you didn't adequately protect your iPad from such harm. [Wink]

And here I thought this thread was going to be about how Congresscritters are spending a bunch of time playing with their iPads!
quote:
Like jealous siblings on Christmas morning, lawmakers peered over [Utah Rep. Jason] Chaffetz’s shoulder, watching him type notes, sift through documents and whip through websites with the brush and tap of a finger — and never once appear to check his BlackBerry.
This was at a Judiciary Committee meeting. Like other forms of technology, iPads are banned out on the House floor itself. But how much longer do you expect that to remain the case, with a developing "iPad caucus" gaining members?
quote:
His new gizmo put him at the forefront of Capitol Hill’s iPad caucus — a steadily growing group that includes Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and the unofficial caucus chairman, Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

“I had one the very first day,” Flake said proudly.

Other lawmakers, including Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), recently placed their iPad orders, and it’s “only a matter of time” before Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), whose district is home to Apple, breaks down and purchases her own, her spokesman said.

Yeah, they're using it for some useful work--Issa's even created an iPhone/iPad application called "GovWatch"--and predictions are it may one day replace the stacks of papers and thick three-ring briefing books members carry out onto the House floor when they make speeches. But that's not all they use it for:
quote:
A small crowd of lawmakers gathered last week in the House Republican cloakroom, cheering on Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) as he wildly steered Chaffetz’s iPad in his hands, the tablet serving as the steering wheel for an iPad-compatible race car game.
Um, guys? You know, it's cool that you can afford these nifty gizmos and all? But you do realize that we're paying you to make laws and do the business of the country, not sit there and play with your shiny new toys? And I can't see how the image of lawmakers playing with their fancy iPads (which, incidentally, so many Americans can't afford, because they're out of work, no thanks to you bozos) is gonna improve people's opinions of Congress, which are already lower than whale shit as it is.

(No flame on the iPad here; I actually got to see one at an Apple Store last week, and it does look very cool and work exactly the way I expected, even if I still think it's "a solution in search of a problem." The flames are directed against Congresscritters distracted by teh shiny, Donks and Packs both.)

Ok, so the idea of politicians doing their FarmVille chores when they're supposed to be paying attention in committee meetings isn't appealing, but when it comes to making laws about the internet, I'd rather have the people you describe above than some 75 year old who has to get his secretary to print out his emails every morning.

Betcha before iPads they doodled, passed notes, and played silly drawing games like Tic-Tac-Toe. Frankly, I'd rather not know how lawmakers blow off steam or handle a low/no-motivation day because NO ONE looks good when they're doing that, but I'm not going to condemn them for it. And if it's a choice between hearing about them playing with iPads or hearing about them playing with interns and pages, I'd take the iPads any day.

They had plenty of other ways to avoid work.

It's good to see the Republicans upholding family values.

Yes, we need legislators that understand more about the Internet so they don't write dipshit laws like some of the stuff they've passed over the years. But if they want to play around on the Web and on their fancy new toys, can't they do so on their own time, not when they're supposed to be doing the work that I'm paying them to do? Yes, the issue here is that I pay their salaries to fuck around on their iPads. And so do you. (Well, not you, TFD, of course. [Big Grin] )

And if I found out that one of my legislators was doing the same thing, well, they would hear about it from me...at the ballot box in November, if nothing else. Let 'em lose an election, and they can go home and play with their damn toys all they like, I'd no longer give a crap at that point.
