I've gotta laugh when I hear people calling the Democrats 'socialists'.
As the conservative French president Sarkozy made clear recently, Obama's 'socialist' policies are fairly similar to European conservative policies.

Most Americans wouldn't know a socialist if one bit them in the face. It's almost entertaining when the Tea Party calls Obama a socialist because the socialists are as annoyed with him as they are with everyone else.

Then they go off to Washington, they are there a month and some person comes into their office with a way to pay for running for reelection in Two years, how do you think they are going to vote, for ideals or the cash?

Clearly the answer is to eliminate, or at least reduce, regulation and oversight of these financial companies and let the free market adjust itself.
