yeah this is sad. To be fair, so far it is just speculation over the Hijab aspect of this case, at least according to the new report I saw last night.

Great...just fantastic.

Personally, the piece of news that bothers me most of late is Shrub's reaction to the Iran news. Both of these individuals (W & this father) show a fantastic breakaway from reality and common sense...and are taking innocent lives by their actions.

Joy.

Sad, really sad.

Just goes to show, you can't trust them religious extremists.

Y'know... there's a -reason- I don't worship someone else's imaginary friend and do whatever it's claimed that he said.

Y'know, I'm not as anti-religion as a lot of my fellow angry atheists, but the child-abuse that's so often carried out in the name of god(s) makes me physically ill. Consenting adults can kill each other over superficial differences in dogma all they like, but let's leave the children out of this.

This flame-war is not win. We need some appologists in here, STAT.

I'm not feeling it today, but here's a try:

You really ought to feel sick about child-abuse in general, you insensitive clod!

We could invite ASM along, he'd accuse us of being apologists. [shake head]

We could invite ASM along.....

Ok ... maybe this will get some flames going (once someone takes a position).

Should people practice their religion today ... in the way their religion was practiced a thousand years ago?

Some things to think about:
  • Criminal and civil laws treat children differently from adults.
  • If "god's law" is "unchanging" -- was all of the "the law" given to men who lived in fear and superstition also meant for those who have risen above superstition and fear?
Note: By "all" -- I'm referring to stuff like "don't eat ____" or "don't drink ____" or similar social customs.

What? I'm offended by the crappy job you've done being offensive and inflammatory. That was practically reasonable and I'll have none of it! You go off by yourself now and don't come back until you're ready to say that you're sorry for failing to behave in a way that would warrant an apology.
