____ The light show should be fantastic. I might as well look at the sky, the bands I want to use will be dead.

____ Well TheMoMan, tried to observe, Wed Night, way too much Moonlight (Full Moon) Then Thursday too many clouds. Forty Meters went dead, I came in from the barn, was doing a little surfing. Many of my bookmarks did not work or were very slow, Now at this point, many of you would think that a Ham would know what was happening, not a clue. Sheesh.

A member of Clan MacDruid-in-law is involved in a similar project closer to home than that.
Plans are on hold at the moment, as the preferred launch area is under water, but it's surprisingly cheap and easy to put together a stratospheric probe these days.

____ TFD, if you were to do a small amount of research. Most ham clubs use software obtained from the internet, to transmit and decode their telemetry. Also most public safety scanners will tune those ham frequencies. So if you have a public safety scanner, and an available computer, a patch cord and the right software you would be able to look over their down link data.
____ Having blown up a few sound cards let me fill you in on how to do the connection safely. With the radio on and the volume low turn down the squelch until you hear the white noise. Now turn down the volume to NO SOUND. Open your sound card program wide open volume, now connect the sound card patch cable preferably to line in. or if no (line in) use the Mic plug. Very slowly advance the volume control until you hear the white noise on the computer speakers, slowly turn on more squelch.
____ Open your program, packet, SSTV, PSK or what ever mode they are using for down link, you now have down link receiving station.
____ I have one scanner set to listen to all three down link frequencies aboard the ISS, feeding two computers one with a packet decoder, the other one with MMSSTV.
____ I am unsure on the APRS frequencies used in OZ. You may be able to track the balloon via the internet using (find u) if you know the call sign of the ham loaning his license to the project.
