It might be, because after many years of relative stability it has changed suddenly, while no-one was watching

There's also the new "don't look into the eyes" rule, but that appears to be less of a problem now. Maybe Jupiter's just blinking.

Perhaps there _are_ alien life of Jupiter, and their abuse of energy also led to climate change? [crazy]

In a marginally smarter comment, perhaps that storm eye on Jupiter is (was?) acting as a mixer, and finally managed to uniformize that part of the atmosphere.
