I've been reading up a bit on the various reviews of Android phones, as I'm strongly considering getting one (possibly a Motorola Droid) in the next couple of months. I just ran across David Pogue's article on the response he received from his review of the Nexus One. I found it pretty funny in some ways, and sad in others.

I really appreciated the thoughtful review, so it's annoying that people have to be such asses when someone has the gall to make an honest assessment of the pros and cons of a particular device. I'm guessing these guys are most likely Linux fanboys who've latched onto Android.

I have an android phone, and there is a LONG way to go yet before I'd suggest it for my mother or someone not technically inclined.

I enjoy the phone, but there are some glitches that are very irritating.

I am fascinated by the new Nexus, but won't consider it for myself. I am not a fan of pure touchscreen phones. I don't like my work iPhone, I don't care for T's samsung eternity, I still prefer the feel of a true set of buttons. I fat finger touchscreens too much for me to consider using one as my primary phone. And for some reason, touchscreens don't like it when your hands are covered in oil...

I am going to be ditching my Blackberry here in the next few months because it is not needed any longer and I don't want to pay the extra cash just to be able to use the web and text messaging.

It is looking like a couple of the LG's will be the best contenders as my replacement. I will do some more playing around on some more phones before I make my mind up though.

I've been reading that the Droid and Nexus One represent some good strides in stability and ease-of-use, but I know they still have a ways to go in order to match the polish of iPhones. I'm looking forward to getting ahold of a floor model and testing it out before I make my purchase.

(All of this said, my next phone is likely to be an N900. [Big Grin] )

____ Yesterday I had my first dropped call on the Boost Mobile i776. I was in the barn, and the packet radio replied to the sender that it had received an auto/reply. I am not too upset over that as the field strength of the packet radio probably swamped the cell phone.
