In 2005, I started a blog, Within a year I wasn’t posting anymore. Typical. I logged into my google analytics account today, which only tracks this one blog of mine. And noticed even though I have had no real activity on my blog in the last 5 years, I was still getting 200+ hits a month, reliably, since I stopped posting.

How you ask. Since I have google analytics I know.

One of my blog posts six years ago was on strategy for a game I liked back then(Pentago) but haven’t really played since.

if you want blog hits with not much work, find a simple game no-one else has ever written a strategy guide for ( there has to be lots of them, use google to figure this out). An d blog about strategy for the found game. It doesn’t even have to be good strategy.

If I wasn’t so busy at the moment I would start a new blog just on strategy for obscure games ( I like games).

I think reference stuff is always good. In the top 10 on my (hibernating) blog are just plain old basic tech stuff: changing a hostname, using Screen, using Finch, and setting up a printer.

Yeah, likewise, I have some technical stuff up that I shared with friends some time ago, and I continue to get hits to this day. I'm tempted to put ads up, or at the very least, start a blog featuring the really stupid comments that SEO types try to post on 3+ year old pages.

At one time I had a webpage about a road trip that I'd taken with a friend. On the page there were a bunch of photos with captions and, among those, were a photo of a big ape statue, some cheezy ceramic angel-dogs, cute animals at a farm and a few funny photos from our visit to a porn store.

Before I cut off all simple access to it, I was getting several dozen hits every day with search engine referrals revealing that my page came up in a search for <noun> porn. Dog porn, ape porn, monkey porn, angel porn, goat porn... you name it.

So, if you want never-ending supply of hits with even less work than a game walkthrough, just mention porn on any page you already have.

The highest ranking pages on my blog are a technical one about printing from CorelDraw in A0, and one where I flippantly mention an obscure style of pornography as a joke about getting more page views. Hopefully it's not the same people looking for both.

Mine all center around a really cruddy Best Buy computer remote and a vulgarity used along with Father's Day a few years back. Boy is that one ever disturbing to read the search terms for... [blush]
