In case you haven't heard, Canada elected a new government last night. Yay, no more Harper in control!

 -

I would have prefered a Liberal minority, with the New Democratic Party holding the balance of power, (that works out best for Canada, imho) but oh well. At least the NDP won in our riding, which has been Conservative for too long.

Perhaps our sexy new Justin PM will do all the things Harper warned us he would do if elected... like mandatory brothels and giving drugs to kids! [crazy]

An excellent result, and always good to see the lizard of Oz take a beating.

That guy's made a career of teaching conservative parties how to win by whipping the people into a frenzy of fear and bigotry, it's good to know that Canadians are better than that.

Congratulations on a sane electoral result. If only we had a hope of one in the US.

I have alway felt that in politics, that each side is willing to drive the country into the ditch, rather than meet in the middle. Certain parties appear to only want to rape the world and forget about what harm may come.

Bravo Canada!

In game of thrones terms, they would see the country burn if they could be king of the ashes.

After the recent leadership change here, the now-deposed Prince Of Darkness has stayed on in parliament (awaiting an opportunity to knife his successor), but his Right Hand Demon (the former treasurer) is realist enough to know he'll never make a comeback, and has resigned from parliament.

As is traditional, his farewell speech was full of advice for his colleagues about what they should be doing to help their country, most of which was *the exact opposite* of what he spent his time in government doing.

And I'm not talking generalities here, specific identifiable policies that he was strongly denouncing just a few weeks ago (when the opposition suggested them) are now vital for the future well being of the nation.

So, he knew what the right thing is, but he chose to do the wrong thing for short-term political gain, "to be king of the ashes".
