Seems as though there's been a lot of iconic figures dying lately, but this one saddens me more than most. It feels like the passing of an era.

I remember that day, the stepping onto the moon, a bunch of us sailors were setting around in the ready room playing pool and watching the local news.

No doubt about it - he was made of the 'right stuff.'

Well done, sir! So long and thanks for making incredible history.

Brian Williams of NBC News described him as "The Last American Hero." Sadly, I think he was right. He had a lot of humility and never tried to cash in on his fame as the first man to walk on the moon. A great man has passed. [Frown]

His passing saddens me deeply. What an incredible man.

As @ryan put it today, "Neil Armstrong wasn’t just a hero to America, he was a hero to the world and to all human history."

There are now only eight men alive who have walked the surface of another world. And they're all in their 70s and 80s now.

How many more of our space heroes have to die, before we as a species get off our collective asses and start making some new space heroes?

We've just lost the first man that walked on the moon. I want to see someone new take that small step, someday.

A song to honor Commander Armstrong.
