I cleaned my desktop at work. Turns out the top is beige and that two recycling boxes are fulled. [Smile] I would like to point out however that I could find things on said top and may have recycled something I need. Ack LOL

Well done!

I fully understand your concern about losing things after tidying -- my preference is to avoid that dilemma. [Wink]

I'm like Sherlock Holmes: the thickness of the dust layer is an essential part of my filing system.

It's not dust. It's a visual time stamp.

The sign it needed to be done were the rubber bands stuck to the desk. LOL No doubt it will be back to normal soon. [Smile]

I do something about my desk when my piles collapse. I hate it when my piles collapse. Things in my piles are in reverse chronological order (think geological strata) and if they get shuffled up I'm totally screwed.

I throw things away only when I know for certain I don't need them anymore. Documentation for stuff I no longer own. Financial stuff more than five years old. Drafts of things that have been submitted. Registration forms and itemized receipts for conferences I've attended and worked through all the bureaucracy for. Etc.
