Turn off your lights for one hour at 8pm March 29, 2008?
Luckily they don't mention LCD screens or routers.

___________________________ Snaggy The effect that they are trying to get is shown on this map figure out where Japan is notice to it's West is what appears to be an Island. That is South Korea the dark space between the light of main land China and South Korea is North Korea, if we all do as suggested then there will be a zone of darkness traveling around the globe, looking like North Korea.

Man. It would be much easier is everyone turned off their power say ... during the day. Sorry. I just don't have enough candles.

Heh...I had no clue about this. It turns out that Google made their whole front page dark, but I didn't notice, since I never go to 'www.google.com,' but rather, I use the search box in my browser. I was just getting 'out of the woods' around then, though...so I suppose I was inherently following through on it? Still, on the tail end of my walk/hike I could see a decent number of lights on in nearby houses, so I guess it wasn't that well followed around these parts...
Definitely an interesting idea, though!
Mag valour, Snaggy, for helping to save the world.
P.S. Not for nothing, but wouldn't it be an *even better* idea to turn off the lights for longer than that?

As you can see, 'twas reasonably well supported here.

Casa del Druid was in darkness, but I did leave the video recorder going to get the druidlings favourite TV show.
I'm not sure what I think about the whole thing. Sure, it's a nice gesture, and a way of raising awareness, but the troglodytes who think the whole "Greenhouse" thing is a hoax by hippy extremists who want us to sit around in the dark eating cold lentils will just have their prejudices re-enforced by this.

_____________________ HI ALL Well here on the Hill Top, Lights went out, the radios went QRT. However when I flushed the toilet the well pump started, and the furnace ran about three time during the hour. So while the lights were out power was still used, guess I ain't such a good tree hugger, ah well I did turn out the lights, has the last person left Michigan?

Yup, I turned off all the lights as well last night.
I think it was a good way to see how many people actually follow the enviromental story and are willing to make changes to their lifestyle.

stevenback7, I agree. As a symbolic act, and as a global awareness tool, it was powerful stuff.
I found the anger that some people were showing to this to be rather bizarre. I read a few on message boards that were going to turn ON every light in their house to protest the tree-hugging nazi-ism. Oh man...

Snaggy - I know what you mean. Around here we have a proposal to put up about 300 wind turbines since we are right in between all the great lakes. And for some reason there are people who are constantly fighting this proposal who have no idea what they are talking about.
