heh, just ask a bunch of freelance web people what their rates are. [Smile]

Remember sites vary so much, you should have some kind of a la cart thing going... so much for a basic site, more for other things, and keep in mind the client will ask you to change stuff a million times. [Wink]

You could request this Salary guide from the Creative Group.

Or look at this site .

It will really vary by where you live too.

most of my clients are from out of state (right now mostly from CA and the east coast) so do I look at LA then for rates?

Trust me, I'm a consultant... Just remember to always get day rate + expenses, never ever quote fixed price for doing the job. The customer seldom knows exactly what they want except that what you design for them isn't quite it, so get them to sign off on the design stage, then if they want changes charge them the extra days. Nothing focuses a customer more than telling them, yes of course I can do that for you but it will be another $2000 so are you sure you want it changed?

I think Allan does a lot of travelling....you could charge for client visits etc. Obviously, your work is virtual, but you still need to recup costs to keep your hard/software up to date and running.

A common mistake is to sell yourself short on your daily or hourly rate. Remember, you have to eat, put a room over your head too. If your potential clients see your portfolio, like your work, they will pay.

i found

Basic: $30-$45/hr
Intermediate: $50-$65/hr
Advanced: $70+/hr

which seems about right for my little town....
