The Women's March on Washington was awesome – between 3.5 and 5 million people took part in an estimated 673 marches in all 50 U.S. states and 81 countries in solidarity on human rights, equality, diversity, nonviolence, and community. (I marched in one of the SF Bay Area Sister Marches.)

Mirroring the Women's March, planning has begun for a Scientists' March on Washington. For everyone who believes in the responsible application of science in making government decisions — and FACTS! — here’s a movement that every science geek and STEM aficionado can get behind.

Scientists planning their own march in Washington
Are scientists going to march on Washington?

Just as the Women's March highlighted the importance of human rights, diversity, and nonviolence, the March for Science aims to focus on the need to base government decisions about the environment, education, health, and other issues on evidentiary science and facts, not "alternative facts", political opinion, or the need to soothe a narcissistic Chief Executive's fragile ego.

This is so awesome. The Women's Marches were so wonderful to see, now I can't wait to see the science nerds swarm! [Applause]

What do we want?
Evidence based policy!
When do we want it?
After thorough peer review!

Yup -- here's a similar sign from last Saturday's Women's March:
This guy has it straight!

Having read that certain people in Government try to change science. I have a quick lesson for them Go buy corn seeds for an area with a different temperature range than yours. Seeds are sold with time stamps (days until germination) Usually these are fifteen day jumps. Buy seeds that germinate too soon and you will not have best yield Too late you already planted them, this can get tricky. Knowing when to plant and how may days to germination can mean a bumper harvest or a big loss. Winter wheat Ver. Spring planted, days till germination play a big role. Now does global warming come into play, possibly.

There was a good piece in the NY Times this week about farmers who know the climate is changing, but dare not say the words "climate change" together. The sad part is the intimidation and violence against people who present evidence from those who believe in an ideology.
