We were on Hamburger hill in West branch with a Wendi's across the road and were told that Saltines (Crackers) were no longer available to eat with Chili, How un-American is that? Chili and no Crackers you have got to be kidding me. No wonder Ted Cruz being born in Canada is such a big deal to the Donald. I know crackers are expensive and you would rather sell us an over priced biscuit to have with our Chili.
Well there is Wendy's I can get Crackers there.
Update to the above, we were in Tawas this morning and the Tim Hortons On the Bay said that they had crackers for Chili, and or soup. That tells me that the owner or franchisee for the Tim Hortons in West Branch is a tight wad.

Wow, good on you for standing up for your crackers.
Crackers with chilli though? That's . Must be a Yank thing.
Crackers with soup is the cat's meow.

Snaggy, it is colloquial also Missouri, and Arkansas they prefer oyster crackers rather than saltines.

So I attempted to write a reply the other day and somehow hit Cmd-W before it went through. D'oh!
Long story short: Regrettable though the situation may be, bring some crackers of your own if you want them. If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they probably have some absurdly good ones for a very reasonable price. (I just tried their version of Ritz crackers the other day...mmmm...a very fine take on the fanciest cracker known to man.)

Blame the Burger King takeover!

Rednivek you are probably closer to the real reason than you think. BK does not serve soups or Chili so no need for Saltines (Crackers).

Hello! Been a long time. Just thought I would put in a mention of weird things in chilli. In this area of the states, they like to put spaghetti in chilli. Don't ask me why. It started in Cinncinnati, Ohio with a chain of restaurants called Skyline Chili. They also put cinnamon in the chilli.

Oh, and MoMan, Trader Joe's is a chain of hipster grocery stores.

As a kid, I used to mix canned spaghetti and canned beans all the time, so I can see it!
In other food news... I just got a spiralizer!

BEANS HAVE NO BUSINESS IN CHILI.

Actually, I think Chili is the easiest dish to switch to vegetarian if you are simply trying to reduce the amount of meat you eat for save the planet reasons.
