I just got back from a weekend in Vegas. What a blight upon the earth. You can talk till you're blue in the face about the nightlife and entertainment, but the only things that actually set it apart from any major city are legal gamblining and prostitution.

Prostitution isn't actually legal -in- Las Vegas, just in the sourrounding counties.

Umm... not that I'd have any reason to know that. [Roll Eyes]

What did you expect?

My condolences. Vegas, from what I've heard, has a few interesting things, but all-in-all it isn't fun unless you're a drunk who hates his/her money and lack of weird diseases.

Sorry, I am still not a fan of Vegas. I can do all that right in my own neighborhood.

[Razz] [Eek!]

When I went to Vegas in 2000 to elope I was not expecting much more than bad Elvis impersonators and bad buffets (we did not see either). We had a great time and keep wanting to go back again. It was very clean and easy to get around with the abundance of taxis (and many were wheelchair accessible to our delight). We stayed at the Luxor. While we did play the slots every night we stuck with the nickel slots and didn't go there for the gambling. We also saw the Cirque du Soleil show "O".

I guess it just depends on what you enjoy.

The only reason I have ever been to vegas is that it is the cheapest city to fly into on the west coast(to actract tourists to casinos of coarse). For my taste it is to bright and has too many people, and lacks culture.

Saying that, that was my opinion of the place before I ever drove trough it on the way out. If I had a better view of the place I probably could entertain myself there for a weekend.

The real interesting thing would be to find people that thought they were going to hate the place, and loved it, and ask them why.

Or find the people that thought they were going to love Vegas, and ended up hating it, and ask them why.

Vegas is only good for a few days of entertainment. After that, the whole concept gets tiring. You have to take it for what it is: an adult amusement park. Altho in recent years they have been trying to market it as a family-oriented destination. Some of the bigger casino-resorts have huge pool and lounge areas.

I've been to LV once for a meeting several years ago. I wouldn't mind visiting again, but I'm not dying to go.

The era of marketing Vegas as "family friendly" is over. Just look at what google street is showing on the strip there.

That plan was doomed from the beginning. Now Vegas is returning to its 'Sin City' roots. This is not to say that you can't find some perfectly acceptable entertainment there. I happen to love magic, so my choices are Lance Burton and Penn & Teller. On the other hand, I love boobies too! [hearts]
Vegas is like all things in life, you can take from it what you want, in more or less equal amounts to what you put in. (this truism does not apply to money in Vegas) [Big Grin]

All kidding aside I never understood the appeal of Vegas.

I have been there only twice. Once to get married and again for a vacation. And both times I was quite happy to leave.

I never did care for the crowds and traffic and heat of Vegas. Nor do I care to gamble, being a bit of a stingy prick with my money. Well that is not entirely true. I do not care to spend money without a tangible return, be it a new toy, or fun, or even just a good feeling. Gambling just doesn't offer me any of those. I did see a good concert at the Mandalay Bay last time I was there, probably the best part of the entire trip other than the stuff I did that is best not talked about in mixed company.

If I am going to do the gambling bit, I can drive up the road to the Indian casinos or if I feel I have to be in Nevada, I would rather go to Laughlin. It may be a dump, but at least if I get bored wasting my cash on slots or cards, I can go out and rent a jet ski.

Okay, I have one reason to go to Vegas:

I want to renew my vows with WinterSolstice in front of a vertically challenged Elvis impersonator (has to be under 4' or it's a no-go)while WS wears a Hawaiian shirt and I wear an obnoxious Hawaiian print dress. Clashing or matching? Not sure.

Though I am considering THIS. While it's more prom-wear than weddingwear? It kicks serious ass. AND it is made of duct tape -- the bondage artist's best buddy (TM)!

It's family friendly. They eliminated separate casinos and moved the gambling right into the hotel lobby, so that you're kids can stand next to you at the slots. [Wink]
